Forgive me if someone posted this before, but how would address (inner/outer) an invitation to a single mother, her child and guest?

I'm not sure what true etiquette would dictate, but my suggestion would be to write it exactly as follows:
Ms. Jane Smith & Guest Miss Mary Smith
and on the inside just write: Jane and Guest Mary
Are you sure she's bringing a guest? Is she widowed? Is the child young? Can you send them their own invite?

Thanks for the reply! I actually have two cases of this. Both moms were never married and both have children under the age of ten. Oh yeah and both are bringing guests. I just wanted to stay as close to the 'rules of etiquette' as I could.
