FH wants the invitation to read Ms. Nicole XXXXX and Dr. Stephen YYYYY request ......
He will be a doctor when we get married in June but technically is not a doctor yet, but he will have his residency set by the time the invites go out...
FMIL told him that he shouldn't do it and that it's silly... FH has been working so hard and deserves to be called what he wants...
What do you girls think? should he put Dr. or Mr. ??
At the chruch and reception we are being announced as Dr & Mrs....

I say Dr. also. He worked so hard, he should be recognized for it.

Re: Invitation wording
My FH is a Doctor (3rd year resident) and we didn't put it on our invites because we felt it was pretentious. Even though FH earned it, we both agreed not to. Word it however YOU both want!! When we get announced, you bet your butt it'll be Dr and Mrs. Paul xxxxx

Re: Invitation wording
It's your wedding. Do whatever makes you happy.
FH is also a doctor. We are not putting Dr. in front of his name on the invitation, but we are putting Dr. in front of our guests' names on all the envelopes. Half our guest list are doctors.

Re: Invitation wording
you normally don't put titles on your names on the invites.
it is usually
Jack Smith and Jackie Jones
request........blah blah blah
you put titles on the envelopes, but i've never received one where the bride and groom put their titles
i'm assuming this is what you're referring to...

I have to agree with SummerBride06 on this one ...
But I think its definitely cool to be announced as Dr. & Mrs. at the end of the ceremony and when you walk into the reception.
Maybe order thank you notes that match your invitations (informal notes) and put 'Dr. & Mrs. Jack Smith' on the front ... those you woudn't use until after the wedding.
ETA: I didn't vote in the poll because both options include a title ....

Re: Invitation wording
I'm surprised FMIL is telling her son it's silly. (I'm sure it wouldn't seem so silly to her if she were the one who earned the title.) If he graduates med school before the wedding then he absolutely has the right to put Dr. on the invite...it doesn't matter if he started residency or not. My mother and FH are both begging me to put it on our invite...except it wouldn't go in front of his name, it would go in front of mine! Personally I'm just not all that into titles so I'm not going to do it. I am however putting 'Dr.' on all the envelopes of my friends who are docs as it is customary and not to mention well earned. I don't see how we'd be announced at the reception as Dr. & Mr. or Mr. & Dr. so I guess that's out as well. I am, however, totally hyphenating my name as I did not spend all those years in school then 4 yrs. in residency and another year in fellowship only to give the title to his family name. Besides, I'd have to change my NY State medical licence etc. etc. Now, that's where I draw the line.

Re: Invitation wording
This is direct from Crane's website --- my 'go to' for all etiquette questions:
'Although my fiancé and I are not medical doctors now, we will be before our wedding. Is it proper for us to use 'doctor' on our invitations?
Since you’ll be medical doctors on the day you are married, it’s proper for you to use your new title.'

That's true too, but I have receieved invitations where they have Ms & Mr when the parents are not paying and the bride and groom are inviting the guests themselves...

Re: Invitation wording
I don't have any titles on mine BUT I am not a DR. If I was and I wanted it on there, hell yes I would add it. Don't let others dictate the details of your wedding.
