INVITATION WORDING????

My FH and I want to word our invitation in the traditional fashion, however, I am having a problem. His parents are divorced...his father remarried, his mother did not, BUT she still uses her married name. How should this be worded? Please help

How about 'together with their parents'?

Does his stepmother use his father's name? It's more difficult if she doesn't. The really traditional way is if your parents are hosting. This is if your parents are Mr and Mrs John Jones, and your FH is Robert, his dad is Steven Smith, married currently to Stephanie, but his mom's name is Stella.

Mr and Mrs John Jones
request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter

Son of
Mrs Stella Smith
Mr and Mrs Steven Smith

No 'and' there, it signifies they're still married. Whew! That's from a guide to invitation wording from Martha Stewart Weddings that appeared in Winter 2006. It would look better if it were centered, but I don't know how to do that here.

How about:

Mr and Mrs Brides Parents
request the honour of you presence at the marriage of their daughter
bride
to
groom
son of Mr. grooms dad
and Ms. grooms mom.

and if you want to include the fathers new wife do....

son of ms. grooms mom and
mr and mrs grooms dad

That's what we did in reverse - it's me with the divorced parents - my dad's remarried and my mom kept her married name.
