I don't know for sure, but I would assume 'have been'

I didn't know either so I worded mine 'FOR YOUR COMFORT AND CONVIENIENCE, ROOMS HAVE BEEN SET ASIDE AT....'

HAS is correct. Because the Block is what 'has' been reserved and the block is singular.

If you had said just 'rooms' it would be HAVE

yes but the entire 'subject' of the sentence is 'block of rooms' meaning one block so its singular.

Hey, I have Master's Degree in English over here, so pay attention!

The subject of the verb is 'a block of rooms' not 'rooms.' One block. That's singular, therefore it would be 'A block of rooms has been reserved...'. 100%. Absolutely. No room for discussion. Don't anger the English major.

As an English teacher, I will second that! 'Has' is correct for the singular block of rooms.

It should definitely be 'A block of rooms has...' or you could say 'Rooms have been...' If you use the word block, that is the subject and it's singular, so use 'has'.

Re: Invitation wording help!!!!! Have vs. Has!????? TIA! - UPDATE!

hi ladies!
so - I asked an english teacher - turns out it is interchangeable and either is fine - but she suggested I go with HAS (which thank goodness I had already done!)

SOOOO thats what I did!

Thanks for all of the votes - I made my decision based on the results!!!

exactly

a block of rooms HAS been reserved is correct bc you are referring to BLOCK which is singular & therefore you need the singular verb. 'of rooms' is a prepositional phrase thrown in there ... your verb shouldnt agree with rooms bc it is part of the phrase. your verb should agree with the subject, which, in this case is block.
