Invitation wording question

Invitation wording question

My FH father passed away many years ago, but we have decided to add his name to the invitation.

Should it be:

son of Mrs. Elaine BXXXX and the late Howard Philip

or

son of Mrs. Elaine BXXXX and the late Howard BXXXX

Philip is the middle name and BXXXX is the last name.

Thanks

Re: Invitation wording question

Please just take what I have to say as opinion. In the end you do what is in your heart.

I had this same dilema for my first wedding in 1997. My father passed away in 1995. I was actually suppose to get married in June 1995 and he died of cancer in May 1995. So I postponed the wedding until 1997.

Anway, I struggled for a long time whether or not to include his name on my invitation. I decided against it because I felt; how could someone 'request the honor of your presense' when they are passed away? I chose to send the invitation from my FI and I stating:
Miss Christine XXXXX
and
Mr. XXXX XXXX
together with their parents.

I chose to honor and remember my father in other ways. My entire ceremony was dedicated to him in a poem I wrote and put on the front of the programs. My uncle (his brother) walked me down the aisle and he held a rose. When we came to the pew where my mother was sitting I placed the rose on the empty space next to my mother. Although it was not my intention, there was not a dry eye in the church.

There are many ways you can remember and honor your father during your wedding.

Good luck!

Re: Invitation wording question

Thanks Christine

I was not going to add his dads name to the top, it was going to be at the bottom

son of

My parents are requested the presence

Does that make sense?

Re: Invitation wording question

Oh Jodi, I'm sorry, I misunderstood.

It's your fiance dad that passed away.

Yes absolutely include his name.

son of
Mrs. XXX XXXX and the late Mr. (full name)

Is his mom remarried?

if so:

son of
Mrs. XXX (new married name) and the late Mr. (dad's full name).

That's what I would do. What do you think girls??

Re: Invitation wording question

My FH dad passed away also, we are going with 'the parents of Bride and Groom...' This way it doesn't include or exclude his dad.

If you wanted to remember him w/a candle, check out www.printedcandle.com they have a great memorial candle. Also, www.exclusivelyweddings.com They also have a matching vase. I am using both.

Re: Invitation wording question

I wouldn't even put 'the late' Mr. xxxxx

Just put

xxxx
son of

Mr. & Mrs. XXXXXX

he's still his father's son, even if his father passed away......
