Invitation Wording...Don't know what to do???

My dad passed away a few years ago and mom is not present in my life. FI and I are ordering invitations this weekend and we are trying to figure out if it is too morbid to put my dads name on the invite. It would read 'The Late _________'

What do you girls think? What should I do? I don't want the invitation coming just from FMIL & FFIL because my dad is still contributing to the wedding even though he is not with us physically and we were so close and want him recognized.

Thanks for your advice!

def too morbid. A wedding is a celebration. I would find anoth way to honor him, have someone read a passage and dedicate it to him, something along those lines.

I have a very similar dilemma. Both of parents are gone and FIL's are paying for our reception. I am not putting my parents on the invite, but I have a hard time just putting FIL's names on it since we are paying for more than half the wedding. I posted this the other day and still don't know what to do.

My dad passed away in 91.

I dont really care about the morbidity of putting him on the invite... he is my dad and I want him to be honored almost as if he were still here.

I found a saying that says

Karen Beth P

Daughter of Elizabeth and the late Peter P

and

Derek Michael F

Son of Charles and Deborah F

Request the pleasure of your company...

you could always say 'together with our families'

Unless the parents want their names listed.. I like KP's suggestion as well..

I dont think its morbid at all!
I think its nice that you still want the mention of your father even though he cant be there in person!

I have seen alot of examples of that on the invitation websites

ETA: I think that the invitations should more reflect that these are the people who helped to make you the person you are today!
I am not in your situation but I am putting both parents names even though FH and I are paying for our own wedding! THe way I think of it is that these people raised me and without them I would be here and I would be the person my FH feel in love with!!

I've read that you are not supposed to word it so it seems like the deceased is inviting you to a wedding, but it is ok to put, daughter of the late-------.

Thanks for the suggestion Tourist. Originally, I just wanted

The honour of your presence is requested at

but then FMIL 'dropped the hint' that they would like their names on the invitation.
