Invitations

Invitations

How far in advance should I purchase invitations? How long do they take to come in?
I haven't even started to look yet and have no idea what I want and was wondering where I should fit them in on my wedding time line.

Thanks.

Re: Invitations

I went to Lion in the Sun to start looking for invites. Since the envelopes I want have silk lining, they can't be caligraphered on the computer...must be hand done. Also, I am having the caligraphy in the color champagne to match the invite wording, and apparently a lot of caligraphers won't do that color b/c it's a pain to mix. They told me that I have to have place my order with them by mid-April (for Sept. 4 wedding) the latest.

So, it pretty much depends on the type of invites that you choose (mine are custom, so takes longer) and the type of caligraphy you chose (computer or hand written)...

Re: Invitations

I was told 6 months before the wedding by someone at Kate's Paperie. She said if you order them too soon and you are getting white invites, they may discolor (turn yellow) over time!!!! I'm not sure if that's true, but that's what she said!

Re: Invitations

Well, I too went to Lion in the Sun in Huntington and they were extremely helpful. I went to a bunch of stores, carrying all different lines of invitations, but theirs were the ones that stood out most to me.

Their staff is pretty outstanding, pointing out things I wouldn't even think of and really 'held my hand' to make sure everything was as I wanted.

I should be receiving mine around Christmas, but I will probably need all the extra time to get them addressed to be mailed. I also have some assembly required, so in my case, the earlier the better!
