Does anyone have any suggestions for a reliable place to get invitations where you can see actual samples before you order them (I don''t really want to order them on the internet but would be open to good websites too.) Any feedback would be great..How long before you ordered invitations, calligraphy, costs etc. Thank you!

Invitations
If you're not completely opposed to online, I like some of the www.gaddisdesign.com invites. They will send a free sample of a particular invitation if you request it.

Most small printing stores have books that you can look through. These books, more like binders, have actual invitations in them.

Invitations Wording Question- HELP
Many places say they have suggestions for wording on invitiations, but I am not sure how to word mine. My parents are paying for half the hall, and half the band. And they are paying for my dress, and some church stuff. My fiance and I are paying the other half and all the other stuff. His parents are not paying anything. They said they might contribute towards the honeymoon, but they don't want to commit. They think the brides parents should pay. I want my parents listed on the invitations, he wants both sets of parents listed. I have not seen invitation wording for when the couple AND the brides parents sponsor it. Any suggestions? I really want my parents mentioned.

Invitations Wording Question- HELP
If your parents are paying for a substantial amount then you would use very traditional wording as in:
BRIDE'S PARENTS
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
BRIDE
to
GROOM
on DAY
YEAR
at TIME
LOCATION
ADDRESS
If your FH parents are paying I don't think they should be mentioned but if it makes him happy it may be worth it.
The only way I can think of addressing the fact that you are paying for a portion is using 'Together with their parents' but that wont allow you to name your parents in particular.

Invitations Wording Question-
If you want to go by the book, then Steph (post above) is correct. Since your parents are paying a substantial amount towards the wedding, they should be the ones issuing the invitation. When both sets of parents are paying a substantial amount towards the wedding then both sets are included on the invite. If you go to any invitation site it will list the suggestioned wording. Perhaps your FI is embaressed that his parents are not really helping you pay for the wedding and doesn't want others to know. By their names being printed on the invite people will think both sets of parents are hosting the reception.Or maybe his parents have requested their names be put on the invite. I hope this helps.

Actually
Both sets of parents on the invite does not always imply that both are contributing to the wedding costs. You can word it as such:
Mr & Mrs. Brides parents request....at the marriage of their daughter Bride to Groom, son of Mr & Mrs Groom`s parents...
This is just to mention the Groom`s parents. If his parents were contributing, you would mention both sets of parent`s FIRST.
I wouldn`t exclude his parents purely because they are not contributing. Just my opinion, but you will have to live with these people in your life for a very long time. It would not be expected that you would word it so they look like they are co-hosting but it would be nice to have their names on the invite, especially that your fiance wants it.
Best wishes!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
Thank you to everyone who helped me figure this one out. It almost seems ridiculous that it gets so technical, but at the same time you don't want to insult people who are being as generous as possible. Thanks again.

another wording
My parents and my FI and I are paying for the wedding and I wanted to be sure my parents names were on the invitation too. Here's what we came up with:
BRIDES PARENTS
together with
Bride
and
Groom
request the honor...
you could even add in Son of GROOMS PARENTS after the Groom.
Good luck!

wordy or worth it?
frissmith- I like the way you did your wording. If your parents helped pay, their names should be listed as the ones doing the inviting with you guys. I think I might do the same wording as you but add in son of...and ... Do you think that's too wordy? or is it worth it so their names are printed as well?

wordy or worth it?
I think if your FI wants his parents names on then it is definitely worth it. I think us brides are the only ones who will even notice!
