2-3 months...wanted to make sure I had enough time to print out the envelopes.

Invitations should be mailed 2 months before the wedding.
You should order 2 1/2 - 3 months before you want to MAIL them. This will allow for plenty of time to make changes to the proof if necessary, and also to not be under pressure when addressing and stuffing them.
So for September, you should try to have them ordered in April or May for mailing them in July.
