Invitations almost ready to go .. Question...

It`s taking a lot longer than I thought it might, but we addressed the inner and outer envelopes using the computer and love the results. Our ink matches exactly the ink used by the printer. And we found a beautiful calligraphy font for free on the internet. Now it`s just a matter of stuffing all of them. I`ve come close to pulling all-nighters the past couple of nights, but I`m hopeful I`ll make the June 30 deadline before postage rates go up. Anyway, when I do bring the invitations in, how willing will the post office workers be to hand stamp (cancel) them rather then putting them through the machine? I think this is a nice extra touch, but I`m afraid of the reaction I might get if I walk in with 100 envelopes. Should I make two or three trips, taking them as I get through them? Or just one trip with all of them and not worry about them being inconvenienced?

I would try and bring all of them - if they start to all cranky, go back a day later with the rest. BTW, where did you find the calligraphy font online?

I heard on anther board that the post office let the bride hand cancel her own invitations. My advice to you is go to the post office when its not too crowded...maybe during the day around 11am. Im not sure where you are located but the Massapequa Post office on Hicksville Road has the nicest people working there...and its not really that crowded!! Good Luck!! Lisa

What I mean...

Those cancel marks/post marks the post office puts over stamps so they can`t be used again. Normally mail runs through a machine and it leaves a big heavy black ink mark that often times smudges and looks messy. I`m trying to avoid that with having the stamps hand canceled using a rubber stamper or whatever they use.

Bring 'em all at once! And, what font did you use?! *NM*

From what I heard, the best thing is to do is make a couple of trips. I think the only do the hand stamping M-Th. Again, this is coming from another source so maybe I am wrong!

It doesn't matter what the postal workers think, that is their job. Everyone does it. Plus you have to have them hand canceled otherwise, due to their thickness, they may get caught in a machine.

When I sent mine out, I asked a few days ahead the procedure when I was at the post office. They told me to come in and ask nicely. They said most brides come in with an attitude. In NYC, they will do the first fifty for free and then it was maybe 5 cents for each additional envelope.
