We are starting to look at invitations and I noticed that for 'the lady' and others you need to tell them a budget... but we didn't really set a budget for invitations.
soo my question is what is a reasonable budget for invitations??
TIA

Re: Invitations - budget
it depends on how many you need as was said and what style you want.
If you want pocketfolds, I have seen the budget be 6-10 per invite. For flat invitations its less. If you want more budget invitations, there are alot of places that sell Carlson Craft, Birchcraft, and other invitation designers that can offer a discount. Some girls spend around 200 by doing the invites themselves, and I have heard others spending $2,000 to get the invitations they want.
The question is how important are invites to you? My mom is of hte opinion people look at them maybe 2 or 3 times, note the date, send the response, and throw out the invitation. Others say it sets the tone for your wedding and will be in your album, so its hard to set a budget without knowing what you are looking for.

I am properly going to need 200. We plan on inviting 300 people plus I want to send some to my family in Europe and Australia.

Re: Invitations - budget
It really depends on what you want in an invite...extras can add up not only in the price of an invite, but in the price of postage.
Our invite budget is super low - we're doing to get the DIY ones from Michael's. $25 a box; I think 40 come in a pack...plus you can use the 40% off coupon from the newspaper for Michael's. That being said, our wedding is on a Sunday afternoon with a more relaxed feel to it...if we were doing a more formal affair, I'm sure we'd opt for more formal invites so our guests would know what kind of reception it was.
I also think that most people throw out their invites anyway...pretty much everyone I've asked has, as well as myself. So I don't want to spend a lot of money on something that will eventually end up in the trash.

so i say around 400-600 should be good if you want a reg invite 700-800 if you want maybe a pocketfold or something like that

Re: Invitations - budget
I'm hooked on letterpress and it is pretty expensive, I'm trying to keep the budget below $2K. With letterpress it depends on how many inks and pieces you need. Are you thinking about letterpress?

Re: Invitations - budget
I am so cheap I don't want to spend more than like $2 an invite, since I am going to need about 125-150 invites. I can't see spending over $500 on them. Meanwhile, the ones I like are like $12 per invite!!! LoL I have expensive taste.

Re: Invitations - budget
I would say a very ROUGH estimate would be around $5 per invite, that seems to be around the average of what brides are spending.

Re: Invitations - budget
To me invites are very important - but when I was in college, I worked at a paper store, so I'm obsessed.
I've set a theoretical budget of $9 per invite, but I really really want letterpress invites, so I am willing to go higher.

Re: Invitations - budget
We are going to DIY our invites. I refuse to spend more than $500 on invitations and we're going to need about 250 of them, so DIY is the only way to go for us!
Plus I like making things, so I think I'd DIY them anyway.

Re: Invitations - budget
I agree. I'm designing my own via powerpoint and uploading them on vistaprint. So much more economical & they look nicer to me. Nothing like homemade!
