So the guy that I am getting my invitations from recommended that I put the start time of my ceremony half an hour early. Did anyone else do this?

No - but I wish I would have thought of it! I know I'm going to have a ton of people walking in during the ceremony!

Re: Invitations - ceremony time
I couldn't because I had the earliest start time possible (11am) and there was a possibility of a funeral just before us (which there was).
ETA: DH got there just before 10:30 and a funeral was just starting to get out.

Re: Invitations - ceremony time
we had 3:30pm on the invites w/ the intention of starting between 3:45-4pm. It started much later than that though because our limo was late, but thats a different story!
Id suggest leaving at least 15 minutes for latecomers. I also told my DOC to close the doors until our processional was done before letting anyone else inside so they didnt interuppt us.

Re: Invitations - ceremony time
Our wedding starts at 630, but the invite calls for 6pm. Our hall will be serving champagne and strawberries during that time....

Re: Invitations - ceremony time
No...mostly because I cannot imagine going to a wedding late. Plus, I know if the invite said 11 and the wedding wasn't actually starting until 11:30...I would be a little pissed, because no doubt I would be waiting an hour by that time...ugh...
Our hall will be serving a complimentary breakfast and I did note it on our website.

Re: Invitations - ceremony time
We're having our cocktail hour first. so our invitations read:
blah, blah, blah... at eleven-thirty in the morning Ceremony promptly at twelve-thirty.

Re: Invitations - ceremony time
I put the exact time and I would be royally annoyed if I were to get an invite with an earlier time, as I usually plan to arrive at least a half hour early to begin with, so then it would be an hour early!
I know some people do it anyway, I just didn't want my guests to sit around waiting.

Re: Invitations - ceremony time
Nope- put the actual time. I sat in the limo awhile watching some late comers come in before getting out...it was fine...we started maybe five minutes late tops!

Re: Invitations - ceremony time
Went to a wedding last month and the exact time was put on the invitations... When the ceremony started there were maybe 25 people seated and during the ceremony another 55 people walked in. Note: the weather was not great (a bit of rain) but I think that the noise from all of the late-comers was bothersome.

Re: Invitations - ceremony time
well, i found out that my invites were already printed, so there is no turning back now! i will just make sure to tell those that are always early what the real start time is.

I agree with this, so we put our exact time as well!

I was thinking about doing that with the church ceremony and with the cocktail hour since its a bit of a drive for some guests. Good idea!

Re: Invitations - ceremony time
The Rabbi suggested that I do that, but of course I had already made up the invitations... I was thinking, 'Oh no... everyone will be late.' Then I thought about myself and how I always try to be on time and how I'd be really pissed if something said 'starts at 6:30' and then I got there early or on time only to sit there for a half hour or more. I suggest putting the actual time on your invitations so people don't get annoyed.

Our hall actually told us to put 1/2 an hour earlier for the start time of the ceremony. They do serve champagne when people arrive and while everyone is being seated . Knowing how many people are habitually late, i'd rather risk having some people come early than have to have people straggle in and disrupt the ceremony.
