Q. Is it true that the people whose names are on the invitations are the ones who paid for the wedding?
A. That's usually, but not necessarily, true. The people who issue the invitation -- that means the people who are 'requesting the honor of your presence' -- are generally viewed as the wedding hosts. Usually, the couple's parents are the hosts, although sometimes the couple themselves or another relative fills the role. However, a couple might be paying for the entire wedding themselves but still choose to have their invitation issued by their parents as a way of honoring them. Since parents often do pay for the wedding, especially if the couple is under 30, the people whose names are on the invitations are usually the ones who paid for it. But this should not be assumed. Does this make any sense?

Re: Invitations: Do names indicate who's paying?
Thank you Shamma! This is something I have been wondering for a while now. I think I am going to use the:
_________, Daughter of ___________ and ____________, Son of______________
Request the Honor of your Presence (Blah, Blah, Blah)
So that I can include our parents, even though his aren't contributing anything.

aliasPook-MY FH's parents are really contributing, but I also wanted to acknowledge them, so I put my mom's name(who is paying for the majority of the wedding including the reception)as the one issuing they invite & after FH's name I put son of____.

Re: Invitations: Do names indicate who's paying?
His mom is contributing to the wedding and my mom is paying for all my bridal needs. we are paying everything else. His parents are also divorced and his dad is giving us NOTHING! So we are putting
'Together with their parents blah blah blah'

I am putting the Together with our parents too. My mom is paying for most of the wedding, my dad is being a cheap A*s. FH's dad is helping with whatever is not covered. I wish I could just put my mom, but don't want to be too disrespectful. Besides my cheap-o dad has already complained saying his name should be first, Yeah right.

FI likes(and i agree) on 'together with their parents' a wedding is for the couple and we both think that putting the parents actual names on it kinda takes away from them

Our parents are both contributioning equally, so we put
Mr. and Mrs. Bride's Parents and Mr. and Mrs Groom's Parents request the honor...

Well, FI and I are old enough to do it by ourselves, plus our parents live abroad. We put together the wedding, and we are who are inviting
