so i find myself emailing invitation places and finding out pricing. am i crazy? how early is too early to start researching invites? is it not safe to put things in print just in case the hall changes something timewise for some reason?

Re: invitations: How Early is too Early?
I've been doing the same thing just getting samples and pricing.Just to get an idea of how much to save for the invites. I didn't like anything so i will be making my own. I wouldn't order them yet just in case you have to change your hall time or your ceremony time if your having a church.

I too, have been getting quotes. One place I spoke to said it was too soon because if you dont store them properly the paper can yellow.

I don't think it's too early to inquire about prices and get samples so that you can have an idea of what you want. Because I'm making my own invites, I have all my stationary, but I have not laid a hand on my paper because like Sora mentioned, I don't want it to yellow. It is still sealed in the box that it came in. The only paper that I don't have sealed are the background mats to my pocketfolds but I have them in a safe scrapbook portfolio.

Don't worry Jackie, I've been doing the same thing!! My mom told me to wait till after the holidays to order them. But no harm in getting some quotes!

I think after the holidays is perfect to start looking at them serious, because you are very close to that year mark! I have been looking just to look nothing serious. I think I will start looking seriously in June

I dont think its too early to start researching. It's only a little over a year until your wedding. As long as your arent sending them out at the beginning of 09, why not get prices- it'll help determine your budget!

Re: invitations: How Early is too Early?
I have more of those free samples than you can imagine. I've even picked out my invites out of the catalog and have the item number on file with my DOC. We're not going to order them for awhile, but I found exactly what I wanted..
It took months.
Edited to answer the question: It's not too early. How else are you going to budget if you don't research!

Re: invitations: How Early is too Early?
We ordered invitations a little earlier than most, because the company was having an end-of-the-year promotion. I think I started looking about 1 year before my wedding, placed the order the last day of the promotion and then took my time reviewing proofs and finalized everything in Feb '08. Our invites arrived in March '08, and I started stuffing envelopes. We mailed them out in May '08 for my Aug '08 wedding.
Keep in mind that you will have to store them, and you don't want them to get damaged or yellow, or a musty smell. However, you can definitely start looking now, and I would recommend ordering a little on the early side, so you dont have to worry about having them on time.

Re: invitations: How Early is too Early?
I've been looking as well. I know I have 1.5 years to go but we are looking for something very specific and i want to make sure that if this is going to be a DIY that i have more than enough time to get them all ready. I don't blame you for being on the ball with this one. I do understand your fears though with changing times, places etc. Guess you gotta figure if the price you are getting is worth the risk.

i also want to cut costs by arranging them myself so that will take time as well. so i guess the earlier i order them the more attention to detail i can give when putting them together.
what would be your suggestions on good storage?

its not too early to start looking around and buying long as you keep them in the wrapper and store them in a safe place

its never too early to begin looking and get an exact idea of what you like bc it may take you a while to find what you are looking for... believe me, im going through this right now and its such a horrible process so far for me...

I would suggest maybe an air tight container like tupperware or something along those lines
