Invitations question.....need your advice

I was wondering, how many of you are going to hand-write your invitations. I told at girl at work that that is what i was planning to do and she looked at me like I had ten heads. Is that tacky? I do have very nice handwriting, so I thought it would be fine. What do you think?

Do you mean to address the envelopes?

I think it is unusual but not against etiquette. But unless you use a very formal calligraphy style, your invitations may be taken as very informal and not given the attention/response deserved.
Just a thought.

But if you can do calligraphy, then that is a very personal way to invite everyone and will look lovely.

I did my own envelopes
I do know how to do calligraphy, it took a while but everyone had nice comments about it

I don't think there is anything wrong with handwriting your own envelopes. My mom has really nice handwriting, so she may do ours. If you have time to do them, go for it.

I think it's much nicer than putting a computer label on it.

I just got my cousin's beautiful engraved Crane's invitation which they addressed using computer labels. It just doesn't look right.

we printed ours - epson ink jet - with the same font used on our invitation - I think it looks very neat and classy.

also - It seems like A LOT of writing - especially knowing that you are going to have to write out all thosse Thank You's not too long after the wedding.

I do not think there is anything wrong with this idea!

It is not unusual to address your envelopes by hand, and I definitely disagree that you would need to use a formal calligraphy for your invitations to be taken as formal and given the attention they deserve. It's what's INSIDE the envelope that sets the tone for your affair. To say otherwise is conjecture.

However, I do agree that hand writing each envelope is a very personal way to address your guests and will create a very unique look to your invitations. Just get an early start on completing them b/c the last thing you want is for them to look rushed or messy.

Good luck!

Sorry...i thought you meant writing out the invitation itself, not the address. In fact, handwritten addressing is quite proper.
