I think most people started to look at about 6 months prior to the wedding, some started looking about a year before. It's never to early to start looking and thinking about what you want.
I have seen on some websites, invitations that are made for 2011 weddings already.

yeah I am in the process of getting mine. But then again, I am getting a lot of stuff early bec of grad school taking up so much time.

Started the process for mine 9 months before the wedding.
