Invitations...please help

Invitations...please help

My wedding is July 9, 2005. I have a bunch of questions:

When should I have invites in-hand?

When should I mail them out?

What RSVP date should we use (keep in mind that we have a B list)? We need enough time to mail out B list invitations, but can't have the RSVP date so early that B listers would realize they were on our B list.

My parents are divorced. I f we go with wording that says something like, 'NY Therapist, daughter of.....,' how do I write my parents' names? I don't want it to say Mr. & Mrs. John Doe because that implies that my parents are still married.

Would anyone mind sharing the wording you used for your invitations? I really need some ideas, even without mention of parents.

You could put their names on two separate lines like:

Mr John Doe
Ms Jane Doe

That will show that they are not together

We had a B-List but we also had a lot of OOT who were A list (family and stuff). What we did was send out OOT invites around May 1st with a June 1st RSVP date. We knew we'd get some no's with older relatives and stuff.

We sent out the regular invites about a month later with a July 3rd RSVP - sent the B's then or within a few days so they would still have more than 3 weeks to RSVP and it wouldn't look so much like a B list.

My parent's are divorced so my invitations just read:

Ms. Jane Doe
and
Mr. John Smith
along with their parents
invite you to share.....blah blah blah

We made the RSVP date 4 weeks from the wedding date.

Divorced parents are typically are written as:

Mrs./Ms. John Doe
and
Mr. Johen Doe

if a parent has remarried, it is proper to include a step parents name as well.

I think it's nice to send out the invitations 6-8 weeks in advance. If your wedding in 7/9, you may want to send out the invitations no later than Memorial day. Find out from your caterer when they need the final numbers and work 2 weeks back for your RSVP date. That gives you 2 weeks to contact late responders. I think you can send out B list people in mid June. You can't mail out the invitations too early for your A list people., unfortunately. You need to send out your B list people at least 4 weeks in advance, otherwise you aren't giving them enough time to make arrangements to attend.

Because you have a B-list I would recommend mailing them out mid-April and hopefully you will get some no's right away and people will still have 4 weeks or 3 to rsvp and won't think anything funny about it. BTW-that is using the rsvp date from above, June 1
