My mother wants us to invite her downstairs neighbors and landlord. I used to talk to them all the time when I lived with my parents for 2 years there.
Now considering she gave me their last name and address, I am guessing she has now committed me to inviting them. But I feel like there was a lot of people we wanted to invite and didn't because we are trying to cut costs as it is. And here she is adding her landlord's family (4 people).
My question is do I ask my parents to pay for them? We are already getting tight with our budget as it is. I know my mother may not be happy with shelling out the $400 for them, but it's either that or we have to contemplate not inviting them at all, and I don't want to be rude after my mother probably told them I would invite them!!
Help!!

Re: Invite dilemma
I suppose so....my only consolation is that some of the people we're inviting might not show up (2 women are due to give birth around that time, and one of FH's friends might be getting married a few weeks before in Vegas)

Re: Invite dilemma
If these 4 people are not in your minimum, I would ask your Mom if she's already told them they would be invited. If not, and if you and your FH are the ones paying for the wedding, you get final say on who is invited. I'm sure your mom will understand.

Re: Invite dilemma
I didn't have complete control over my guest list because my parents are paying for the wedding. If I were you i would talk to your mom and explain to her that you just can't afford to invite any more people. If she wants them there that bad she will offer to pay. i wouldn't hit her up for money though.

Re: Invite dilemma
I would talk to mom and find out if you are actually committed to inviting them. I would also let her know that you can't afford the extra people and have taken some off the list that would be a priority over the 4 she just 'added' for you.

Re: Invite dilemma
We're already over our minimum with our own guests by about 10 people. I emailed my dad, and he said we could only invite the husband and wife (2 people) instead of the whole family. So I suppose that's a compromise.

Re: Invite dilemma
If you think it will cause an argument, then just invite them, (20% of your list supposedly won't attend anyway!)

Actually our small guest list is pretty solid because 50% of it is close family and the rest are very close friends.
