Invite Dilemma

Invite Dilemma

A little situation might be a-brewing, and there's really not a DARN thing I can do about it, so I'm really stuck!

A good friend of mine pulled a no-show for my shower. I was expecting it because she has always been really flaky all throughout the years, like we would make plans and then she would ditch out last minute, not show up, someone else would call with plans and she's go with them instead, etc.

She said after the fact that she was sick, but I kind of don't believe it because the week before she sent a message to my sister saying that she was so sorry but something came up at work and she wouldn't be able to make my shower this weekend. So my sister was like um, but it's not this weekend...it's next weekend. Are you going to be able to come next weekend? We need to know for certain. She said she wrote down the wrong date, but if it was next weekend she'd 'definitely' be there. So we kinda feel like she tried to get out of it once, then got caught, and didn't come. Cried wolf. Maybe she was sick...but I don't 100% buy it because of the little act the week before.

So my mother was pissed, and said don't invite her to the wedding. I can't do that, because I sent her a STD and a shower invite...however I am tempted to let the invite get 'lost in the mail'. My mom said you need to find out from her for certain if she's going to come or not because it's a lot more money you'd be out...but the reality is, I can ask her point blank, and she'll tell me yes definitely absolutely she'll be there till she's blue in the face...until a half hour before the ceremony when she'll text my phone and say she's sick and her and her husband cant come. It's at the point now where her word just isn't good to me.

So I don't know what to do. Just because it's expected behavior from her doesn't mean that it hurt any less...would you still invite them if you were in the same situation?

I'd still invite her. Like you said, you sent her a STD and a shower invite. Assuming she responds yes, leave her out of the headcount you give to your RH. (My BM specifically told me to leave 5 people out of our headcount in the event of last minute cancellations, since the headcount can't be decreased). It would be no big deal for them to add a seat for her that day if she actually does show up.

That's a tough situation but I would definitely send an invite to her. I would just make it clear that she needs to be sure that she is coming if she responds 'yes' on the invite.

Re: Invite Dilemma

I have someone like this as well. And she too, was a no show for the shower. In fact, she's sent me 3 text messages since May saying 'Your gift is in the mail'

You HAVE to invite her, and not conditionally, i.e. 'I'm inviting you BUT make sure you don't flake out, etc'. Clearly she's an adult and you don't want to offend her either.

I would meet her for coffee, tea, something and tell her you were very dissapointed at her last minute absence and really wish she could have celebrated your bridal shower with you. Rub it in a little!! In my case, I'm not super tight with my flaky friend, so she wasn't invited to my bachelorette party-and if she EVER dares ask why she wasn't invited....I will let her know.

Like suggested above, I would give your RH a count of a few less people. And don't invest any ounce of energy on your flakey friend.

Last-make sure you let your besties how much you appreciate them and how happy you are they're in your BP/in your life/etc. Keep the karma positive!
