So, here's my dilemma--I'm hoping you guys have some advice.
We've decided to only invite immediate family, aunts & uncles, and first cousins. B/c I have a huge family, some of our first cousins are kids-even as young as 2--but that's okay. We just needed a place to draw the line.
Now, I have one cousin whose son (my 2nd cousin, I think) is 5 years old and technically would be excluded by these rules. BUT, it would be very strange to not have him there, when the rest of my family is there. If I do open the list up to all guests' kids, then I'll have about 15 kids there, because my cousins on the other side of the family have kids, who I don't feel the need to invite.
SO, my question is, would it be wrong to ask this little boy to be our ring bearer so that we can still invite him w/o upsetting the other guests w/kids? If he says no, then what do I do?

Re: invite kids?
no, I would ask him to be your RB if you really want him to be a part of your day. Don't do it to obligate his family though

Re: invite kids?
If I were in your shoes with MY family, I'd just invite the kid and not invite the kids on the other side of the family. I just know that, in my family, we are much, much closer to one side than the other. (I can't even name all my cousins on one side) Also, no one would be offended by this particular circumstance / one kid being there.
I'd just make the exception for that one kid. If you're not comfortable doing this or feel it would cause a problem in your family, then go with what the above poster said: have him as RB only if you really want him to be... don't do it just to appease family!
ETA - Take my advice for what it's worth -- I'm not inviting any kids to the wedding. There will be 1 20-year old there (in my BP) and possibly one 15 year old nephew. Other than that, no kids. It's easier for us, though, b/c we're having a night wedding (7-midnight reception). Plus, no one in our families wants to bring their kids!

Re: invite kids?
Yes--it's a bit different for me. I know one side will be offended if I include one and not the other. I know this little boy a lot better, but I'm not VERY close to him. His father and I are the same exact age and spend a lot of time together as kids, though, so I'd say he's one of my closer cousins. We already didn't invite any kids to our engagement party, and I think that didn't go over very well.

Re: invite kids?
i know how you feel i have a HUGE family too....i am the oldest of 20 grandkids just on my moms side. since all of my family is in michigan i can't exclude the childen (my cousins) after having them travel.....i think your family would understand that the only child is your ring bearer. 3 of my younger cousins are in the bp as 2 rb and a fg. i have so many others i could have asked and i am assuming no one is offended...they know how large the family is!

I would just make him the ring bearer. Make him an official part of the wedding and therefore he'll have every reason to be there.

Re: invite kids?
I highly doubt he would say no. Try it and see what happens, then you could make your decision.
