Invite List - Parent's Coworkers (a little long)

Invite List - Parent's Coworkers (a little long)

Are your parent's inviting coworkers?

My parents are paying for part of the wedding (about 1/2) so my father feels like he can invite whomever he wants.

The problem is I work for the same company as my father so I KNOW these people - and I honestly don't like them at work (and I would NEVER want to spend my free time with them, especially my wedding day). One of them I would go as far as to say I hate (he made a coworker cry he gets so nasty). I told my father I didn't want them invited and he got all angry. Am I being a bridezilla? He does not EVER see these people outside of work, one of them I thought he hated (the above-reference cry-inducer). Is it so much to ask that I LIKE the people invited to my own wedding?

I think you have every right to say no to people on the invite list - to invite co-worker's you don't even like - much less correspond with out of the office - just shows that your fishing for presents. Let them come to the ceremony if they want, but the reception should be saved for your friends and family.

I couldn't agree with this more. Why would you want to spend the biggest day of your life with people you dont even like?

You have the right to say who you want or dont want. Be firm and let him know you dont want them their NO MATTER WHO IS PAYING.
Discuss it quick though before he mentions it to someone at work and then you are obligated to send them an invite. Good luck

My dad's not but my mom wants to; mainly because she's been doing alot of planning while at work and telling her co-workers about her ideas and the favors etc etc. They don't even know me, never met me, with the exception of 2 women there, and they just want to come to see everything my mom planned put together.

Thanks Angela. My mom acted like I was being this awful bridezilla too for saying no to these guests - so I started doubting myself. Even if they are helping to pay, it is MY wedding and not theirs. There are already a ton of guests I don't know or are not close to - so really I just want to draw the line at guests I dislike. Even if they cut these two guests, my father would still be inviting 3 work associates and my mom will be inviting 5 - which is more than I wanted, but at least I don't hate them.

I don't get it. Why is the assumption that if someone contributes it becomes their wedding?

Their contribution is a gift and it shouldn't have any strings attached.

Stand your ground Sue and turn it around on them-they have no right to make you invite people that you hate! How ridiculous.

I'll go beat them up if you want...

8 is not awful.. maybe they won't come.. You are NOT a bridezilla, no matter what anyone says. it is YOUR wedding NOT YOUR PARENTS>>.. You are absolutely right at drawing hte line at guests you dont like..

Thanks! It is a little disheartening - I really expected my parents to have their lists done when I asked and to keep their numbers down as I requested. Instead their list isn't done, they act like I am asking for something extreme when I ask for it to be done soon, they are above their count and they are trying to guilt me into allowing them to invite people I don't even like. I can't wait for these darn invites to be out!

my parents are inviting coworkers...they are more like friends than coworkers and my parents are paying for the wedding... also, many of these people I grew up with since my mom has worked with them for so many years..
