Invite question

If a couple does not live together, which address do we send the invite to? We are friends with both of them.

I believe propper etiquete (not spelling) dictates they each get their own to his/her own house. Although we don't live together, we never got our own invite. It was never OUR friends it was either HIS friend of MY friend.
