Invite to Reception Only?

Invite to Reception Only?

Hi - We are planning on having around 250 - 275 people for the reception. However, the ceremony location we are looking at is 150 people max. Do you think people will mind not getting invited to the ceremony?

I'm sure some of my FH's single friends wouldn't mind not having to sit through the ceremony. What about friends of our parents who we don't really know? How do you let people know also that they don't have to (or discouraged to) come to the ceremony?

Thanks!

Hm that is a hard one. How much time is there between the ceremony and reception? Sometimes people will only some to the ceremony if there is a couple hours between. Did you order invites yet? Maybe you can make your own or order 100 seperate ones for just the reception. We are getting married at the hall and just found out that the room we chose for the ceremony is too small for the amount of people we invited and might have to move it. Also if it isn't a mass or long ceremony people can stand. Good Luck

remember, not everyone invited the wedding reception will attend the wedding ceremony anyway- I would send the invite to the ceremony and reception-unless you are doing a completely private ceremony with immediate family-parents/siblings...I would not send to some and not others

I don't think people would mind.

What I would do is print out the invitations with information for the reception and then create a separate insert with the ceremony details to include in the envelopes of certain people.

A lot of people do not go to the ceremony. I wouldn't worry about it. Not all the people you invite will be able to come at all. So now your talking maybe 225 people that respond yes. Out of that I am sure 75 will not come to ceremony.
If they come and there is not enough room they will just have to stand. I would go with it if it is the place you love. Good luck

ETA: I think everyone who is invited to the reception should be invited to the ceremony. JMO.

Not everyone will go to the ceremony. FH's cousin had about 250-300 people at her reception and only about 50-100 came to the church. So not everyone will go.

Yeah, I would say if you were getting married at the RH and going directly into the CH most of your guests will come to the ceremony. But if getting married someplace else and have time in-btwn you probably won't draw the same size crowd.

Everyone does not go to the ceremony. My friend had 350 people at her wedding and she only had about 75 people at the ceremony. I think you should invite everyone to the ceremony.

Honestly, I think it's pretty rude to not invite people to the ceremony, The ceremony is the most important part of the day! Granted, it may not be the most fun for some guests, but there would be no party if there wasn't a wedding first! Unless you're having a tiny (bride, groom, officiants, 2 witnesses) ceremony or destination wedding and then a big party at a separate/later time, I don't think it's a good idea.

ETA: If you invite people and don't include ceremony information, they will assume the ceremony is at the hall and be confused when there's just a reception.

I agree... i ALWAYS go to the ceremony....

I don't think everyone will go to the ceremony anyway. I would just invite them.

Re: Invite to Reception Only?

I've been to a wedding with my family where we were only invited to the reception. We didn't even find out until we got there and were ushered straight to CH. Honestly, we just figured they couldn't hold as many people as they would want in their ceremony location. My family wasn't offended.

If you invite everyone to the ceremony, and more than 150 people come, what would you do? Would you turn people away? Have them stand outside the ceremony location and wait? Maybe it's unlikely that everyone will come to the ceremony, but I guess I would err on the side of caution.
