invite to the ceremony only???

invite to the ceremony only???

FH and I are having some trouble with our guest list. We are both teachers and would like to invite everyone but we just don't have the space or $$.

Is it rude to invite co-workers just to the ceremony? Has anyone done this? Please post examples...

Re: invite to the ceremony only???

I've seen this done before. People may post up a copy of the invitation (if it just contains ceremony info) or create something that has all the information in a place where everyone can see it.
LAst may, I was invited to a co-worker's ceremony. We had been talking about it prior to the wedding. The week before, he casually mentioned that if I was free and had the time, to come by to the ceremony. I went with my FH. I thought it was nice of him to invite me, and did not take offense that I wasn't invited to the recption. Weddings are expensive and we didn't have a close enough relationship for me to be invited.

Hope this helps! Good Luck!

I've been to weddings like this (especially teachers.) I never took offense. I plan on doing this for my wedding for sorority sisters and for the FH's co-workers.

I did this too, when I worked at the elementary level. I made copies of my invites and handed them out to the students.
I see nothing wrong with inviting co-workers to just the ceremony.

Re: invite to the ceremony only???

I would be a little upset i think if i was only invited to a ceremony. First, i would not know what to do regarding a gift and second it would make me feel like the couple wants me to witness the happiness of their union but not celebrate with them.

Maybe its done more with teachers (since you probably have a lot more co workers then i do). And i totally see inviting your kids (if you are a teacher) to the ceremony.

I had people come to my church who were not invited to my ceremony, but they were mostly parents of people in my wedding party. I also did not invite coworkers to either the ceremony or reception.

I have never heard of this being done, but apparently it is. This would just be my take on it.

I invited EVERYONE to the church and I did it by 'word-of-mouth' I didn't do formal invitations. I feel people might get confused getting just an invitation with no reception card. I didn't want any confusion or extra work for me it worked out well for me and everyone I asked to come to the church went.

I'm a teacher too, and generally the church info is passed around by word of mouth. Since I'm a high school teacher, I'm just inviting my dept. (I'm getting married at my reception site) and people on the team I am part of. I know everyone else will understand.

i am a teacher too, I am inviting m y friends from work and possibly princ and vice princ to wedding reception, not 'inviting' anyone ONLY to church ( we are also getting married in NY and live in CT) If people want to come i think they will find out from others...

Yes, I think it would be rude.

I am also dealing with this, but we are not teachers. My family seems to think that it is okay to invite people to the ceremony only. I think I would be offended if I was personally invited to to the wedding and not the reception. Now, if it is a word of mouth thing and you aren't personally inviting folks, then I think that's okay. But if you can spare the time to personally invite me to your wedding then I wouldn't understand why I wasn't invited to the reception. I do not plan to do this--despite what my family says.

Thanks, everyone... I think we have decided to do it mostly by word of mouth and we'll probably post something in the faculty rooms.
