Invite VENT

Invite VENT

grrrr

My invitations were ordered early and many of them were sent very early because of the guests that were coming from out of country and from the west coast who made up about half of our guest list. Last night it took me hours but I finished stuffing and calligraphy for all of the local invitations that FH is hand cancelling today. Late last night my mother calls me and says:
Mom'I made a list.'
me:
What list?
mom: 'Of the rest of the family who you can invite.'
me: locally? how many people?
mom: well i have a list.
me: ok give me the list then...
And she goes on to give me a list of about 40 people locally and not locally (CT, FL, upstate NY, MA) and she doesn't have the info for anyone. The best is 'Christine' and I say 'Christine who?' 'I forgot her husband's last name but she's your cousin and we went to her wedding.' OK where does Christine live? 'I don't know.' Mom then says 'Chrissi you should really have gotten these invites out already you know so you'd better find those addresses.'

This is my first vent. My mother is queen of the procrastinators. I now have a shower location but no date yet, no plans, no invites, she hasn't been to look at a single MOB dress and now I need to try to find all of these people because she's upset that I don't have enough people 'on my side' but that's cause all of my friends are mainly in California where I spent most of my adult life and most of my family is deceased. I don't mind inviting these people because she's right, my grandparents would have wanted all of them there but OMG I collected names and addresses in MARCH!

I'm going out to run errands now because I have a feeling that I will be doing this most of the afternoon.

Sorry for venting but now I know why people do it.

Re: Invite VENT

My dad kept telling me to invite his distant cousin and I said I'd be happy to, but for weeks he didn't have her address.

Finally about 2 months after my invites went out, he gave me his cousin's phone number to get this distant cousin's address. I felt weird asking her for it but I finally did. I mailed out her invite about 1 week before the RSVPs were due.

I put in a small handwritten note saying 'so sorry this is late, but I didn't know Bill's name' (her boyfriend).

Got the response back before the RSVP date (which is 12 days ago... and I'm still missing some peoples' responses) and they're coming. No one even cared or noticed how late it went out!

You've got nearly 3 months until your wedding. Plenty of time to still be sending out invites. If the people can't come, they won't come. No big deal. It'll all be fine!!!!

P.S.... your mom's a little nutty. But you love her.

Re: Invite VENT

i feel you on this.
FH's parents MADE their list 2 years ago. And have seen the full wedding list at least twice since then. All of the sudden NOW people are missing. FH finally put his foot down and told them too bad.

Re: Invite VENT

I totally hear you on this. Every week, FMIL remembers more cousins of hers that we 'have' to invite. The best one now is that she remembered one more, but asked if I could have the RSVP address changed to her address for that one single invite, because she's not sure if this woman that it's so imperative we invite will know who we are if I send the invite from me. And that she isn't sure if she will know their last name. So I said but won't she know FH's name? 'Oh no, I don't think she knows his name.' FH is almost 30. Close cousins right? So needless to say I said no, I am NOT having the rsvps go to her house, and if this person has no idea who we are when she gets the invitation, she can kindly send back the self addressed, stamped envelope and say no!
