Sorry, I'm at work and need to do something since we are really dead today.
Just wondering how others have dealt with this situation. I've discussed my wedding with lots of people. Many that I am close with, some that I hang out with maybe 3x a year. I have a few of the ones I speak with rarely make comments like, 'I cannot wait to see you walk down the aisle' or 'It's going to be wonderful to be there when you marry'. I had NO intentions of inviting these people and had no idea how to respond. I usually just smile and change the subject. It makes me so happy that these people wish me well and want to share in my day, but we have a set budget and really want to keep our numbers low. I've put these people on the b-list just in case, but feel horrible that it cannot be the a-list. So now i'm wracked with guilt because I know these people will feel let down when they do not get an invite.
How are you handling these situations?

Re: Invite weirdness
I would stop discussing the your wedding with people who arent invited. If they ask you why they arent invited, just tell them that you're keeping the wedding very small.

Re: Invite weirdness
this is the issue that i have at my job. My mom worked there a few years back and was with the company for 12 years so a lot of people have basically seen me grow up. That being said, that doesn't mean sh*t! lol. I'm cool with a lot of people at my job but there also a lot of spectators and my wedding is not a spectacle! I guess it's harder to deal with when you know people sincerely want to come, rather than just wanting to go just to see what you pulled off. It's really going to be hard to pick and choose between people and I know I may get some people that feel slighted but i can't wear that burden on my shoulders. I'm planning on telling people that my budget is really limited and I won't be able to accomadate everyone! That's my story and i'm sticking to it!

I agree w/ what Pam said, don't discuss the wedding around those not invited and if they inquire as to why they're not invited down the line, just tell them you have to keep it small. Most people would understand this, its not like money grows on trees!

Re: Invite weirdness
When people ask about my wedding I just sigh and say we had to keep our wedding very small and intimate because of cost.

Amanda!!! u totally jinxed me!! It happend to me today. Someone from my older sister's side of the family (we have different moms) said, 'I better be getting an invite to your wedding!'
I burst out laughing. (I told you I laugh at inappropriate times!) But I mean, really, c'mon I barely even knew this lady. And to make it even better...I wasn't talking about my wedding at the time!!!

LOL LOVE that you laugh at inappropriate times. I cough or giggle. I can't help it. Funerals are a bad thing for me to be at.

Re: Invite weirdness
in order to keep things like this happening i just don't talk about my wedding. whenever anyone asks i just say something about how we are not sure what we are doing yet.

Re: Invite weirdness
Are you bringing it up with them or are they asking you questions about it?
If they ask you about it, keep the details to a minimum and quickly change the subject. If they say something that implies that they think they'll be invited, I would say oh, well we're having a really small wedding so unfortunately, we can't invite everyone we'd like to be there.
If you're bringing it up yourself, stop bringing it up.

Re: Invite weirdness
i smile and nod. I really dont know what to say- its wayyy to awkward to say you're not invited. They'll just have to wait to NOT get an invite and then realize it.
