Invite wording for female dr?

Invite wording for female dr?

Just a quick question as to how to address a female doctor and her husband? She kept her maiden name professionally. Would it be:

Mr. and Dr. John Hislastname on one line or,

Dr. Jane Maidenname
Mr. John Hislastname
on two seperate lines or

Mr. John Doe and Dr. Jane Maidenname?

this is so confusing! I've checked the websites that help you with this kind of stuff but they don't say anything about this kind of situation. TIA!

I had two like this and for one she prefers Mr. & Mrs. John Doe socially although it's actually Dr. Jane Smith and Mr. John Doe. She never changed her name.

The other is Dr. Jane Smith-Doe and Mr. John Doe.

Re: Invite wording for female dr?

I have the same issue and I have looked into it. My co-worker (male) is invited and his wife is a doctor. She hasn't changed her name b/c of professional reasons, so she still uses her maiden name. Some of the books I read said:

For example:

Her name: Jane Smith
His name: Michael Jones

Dr. or Doctor Jane Smith and Mr. Michael Jones

-or-

Dr. or Doctor Jane Smith
Mr. Michael Jones

The book said that the physician's name should go first, even if the physician is female. The book also said that you can write Mr. and Mrs., but I personally feel that if he/she is a doctor, he/she has earned the title.

I think this is how I am gonna do it unless the invitation people give me another suggestion that I like better.

Hope this helps

Dr. Lisa Jones and Mr. John Doe on one line (provided it fits)

if they were unmarried, it would be on 2 lines.
