Invite wording question (Long)

Anyone paying for the wedding themselves but wording the invite
Mr and Mrs Michael Jones
request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter
Michelle
to
John
son of
Mr and Mrs Steven Smith

or

Mr and Mrs Michael Jones
and Mr. and Mrs Steven Smith
reuquest the honor of your presence at the marriage of their children
Michelle
and
John

My parents are very old fashioned and even though they would have like to have paid for the wedding we just aren't letting them. But I think they'd be offended if we didn't word it as above. What are your thoughts?

Re: Invite wording question (Long)

We and both sets of parents are contributing $ and we worded the invitation as follows:

Mr and Mrs XXX
and
Mr. and Mrs XXX
request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their children
XXX
and
XXX

JMO - I like the traditional wording better!!

We are paying for the wedding ourselves but we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for our parents so out of respect our invitation wording is:

Ms. Pauline ______ & Mr. Jim _______
and
Mr. & Mrs. Michael _______
invite your to witness as their children

Michelle Elena
and
Michael Patrick

Share in the Sacrament of
Holy Matrimony
A Wedding Mass will celebrate this union
on Saturday, the third of November
Two thousand and seven
at two-thirty in the afternoon

I feel the same way but a friend of my parents was like 'why are you wording it that way. I thought you (fh and I) were paying.' Thanks!

Re: Invite wording question (Long)

well, me and fi were adament about making sure that it was understood that we hosted the wedding in the wording..

We did something like this:

It is with great joy that we

Lisa A. ...
and
Vincent John ...
Daughter of Ms. Fran..
and son of Mr. and Mrs. ...
request of the honor ...
etc

even though our parents did not pay, we still wanted to include their names somehow...

hth! good luck!

Re: Invite wording question (Long)

FH mom is giving us a little help, but we are paying for 3/4 ourselves and we are putting all parents names on the invites. I think it honors the parents. Thats JMHO tho. We also wanted to mention his deceased dad. And my parents are divorced and remarried, so it got wordy, but I love it! Do what suits you guys.

Ours goes like this:

The honor of your presence is requested at the wedding of Ryan xxx, daughter of Mr xxxand Mrs diff last name to William xxx son of mrs xxx and the late mr xxx on Oct 5...... this way noone knows who is paying, it just mentions everyones names.

I worded my invite as the first one you posted about.

We paid for the wedding, but i am traditional and i liked that wording the best. also, just because my parents couldn't afford to pay for the wedding, didnt' mean they didnt want to---- i truly felt it was their day as much as mine and i wanted to honor them and everything they've done for me in that way, regardless of who paid.

We're all chipping in, and we wanted to honor everyone on the invitation. Since FH and I are a little older, have lived together for several years and own a home together, we are the acting hosts. We put:

Bride
and
Groom

together with their parents
Bride's parents
and
Groom's parents

We broke several etiquette laws, but we went with what we like

This is what we did:

Mr and Mrs Michael Jones
request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter
Michelle
to
John
son of
Mr and Mrs Steven Smith

We are paying for 3/4 of the wedding but I just didn't feel right not acknowledging my parents and FH's parents.

We did our invite the first way you have shown. We liked the look and flow of it. We also liked that it was traditional. Both sets of parents gave us a gift but we paid as well.
Some people were rude and did ask who paid for what. Anyone that asked was answered with why do you want to know that? Most couldn't answer that question, nobody wants to admit they are nosey.

This is how I'm wording mine too. I found this idea and realized it would be perfect.

We are paying for the wedding but wording our invite like this. My parents would pay for the wedding if they could, and I wanted to give both sets of parents some recognition. HTH!
