Ok, so when we first booked our hall we were told the room would fit 150 comfortable but could ultimately accomodate 170. We honestly didn't think we'd need that much being this was well over a year ago. Well when the invites went out we had 196 people. Yesterday we picked out our menu and was told 160 was the max. So now we are hoping 36 people saids no. Its really horrible everytime I get the mail, we are hoping there is some no's . I feel so bad, but I have a feeling we might be in a bind. Has anyone been to a wedding where they fitted more people then the max?

Re: Invited too many people
To be honest, I was really annoyed with some of the halls that my FH and I visited because they would tell us, oh this room can fit up to ___ number and when I counted the chairs I would realize that there was no way that many people would fit comfortably! They should just be a bit more accurate with that!
Don't fret yet, wait until you get all the rsvp's and hopefully you'll have enough no's.

Re: Invited too many people
I think normally like 20% say no-- I've heard that's kind of like a 'rule of thumb'
Not really sure how accurate that is... but I wouldn't worry, Im sure you'll be fine!

Maybe you will get at least 10 no's. How bad would it be if you had to cram some people together. Maybe they can make it work???
Do you have any definite no's? I have some relatives that are invitited but I know they will not go.

I wouldn't worry! 20% typically say no. We invited 276! And had 196 or something like that..

We did a list in our head on who probably (hopefully) wont come and we have a final number of 25 and that includes the no's we already had. We are getting nervous, since we really haven't been getting any no's (just 2 actually, both from single people ) . Based on the floor plan given to us another table won't fit ( at least not on paper).

OMG.. This is so wierd I'm getting married at the swan club to and I'm in the same bind right now!! We' estimated about 195 invited but I want only about 160. I'm really nervous to!! I send out my invites next week so hopefully I get about 20-30 no's.

I definitely don't think you'll have a problem at all!!! 36 NO's really isn't all that much. Good luck!!!

Re: Invited too many people
dont worry about it -- most no's will only come in last week before rsvp date! PPle who know they are coming rsvp right away. We invited 225, and by the rsvp date we had 50 nos! and most came in last couple of days before the rsvp deadline. it will be fine.

funny you say that, the normal max # is about 150 for my room, and I think anything over 100 would be claustrophobic!
yeah, the honesty thing is frequently in short supply with vendors when it comes to the temptation of booking a huge wedding

Re: Invited too many people
The good news is that Nos usually come at the end.
The bad news is that - there are times when the rule of 20% does not apply and more people than you are expecting show up. One of my friends had almost everyone show up.

Re: Invited too many people
There might not be enough seating for everyone.. but I highly doubt everyone can come .. even the yes RSVP sometimes end up not showing.. they just want to be nice. No worries everything will go perfectly!!

Re: Invited too many people
I feel the same way as you. There are a few 'friends' who haven't contacted me at all in the month 1/2 they've had their invites and I'm not even calling them to see if they'd like to come because we're 15 people over.
