I've been looking at invites. How much does an average invitation cost?? The one I really like was 8 a piece...that just seems ridiculous!!

Re: invites
There is a HUGE range in price for invitations, just like everything else with wedding planning.
You can spend anywhere from $300 to well over $3000 ... it all depends on the style, the brand, the quantity, quality of the papers, etc. It depends on what you are looking for ... there are beautiful invitations in every price range.
Its like asking how much is a wedding gown .... you can get something on sale at Davids Bridal for $99 and you can get a fancy designer gown for $6,000 or more ... and everything in between! And there's nothing wrong with any of them!!!!!!

I think that is a lot of money. There is a huge range. I think you just have to think about what you like and what fits in your budget.

Re: invites
ive been looking online, I LOVE smashing cards.com, but they're pricey. I'm only inviting abotu 180 ppl...but I have no idea what my budget for invites should be. I don't want anything over the top, just classy. What is an average budget for invites? 1000?? Keep in mind the 8 includes the rsvp cards, printed return envelopes, stamps on the response envelopes...pretty much everything...

Re: invites
$$ TOTALLY depends upon the printing technique, the paper quality, and the # of inks and/or embellishments....
If you're favorite invites are letterpress of engraving, and has 2 ink colors on handmade paper, $8 each is a bargain....
Invitation budget totally depends upon whether stationary is a priority to you and FH. Most girls on this site have other wedding vendors (DJ, florist, dress, photographer) as much higher priorities...
I hate to admit it, I love the high end stationary stuff, and did pay $13 per invitation.... it all balances out in the end... I got bargains for my dress and DJ...
It is REALLY easy, though, to pay less than $8 per invitation, and still get pretty stationary. I'm sure many brides will respond to this thread with examples and suggestions....

Re: invites
one more word of advice.... to determine budget, don't count the total # of people. It's the # of couples + # of singles and guests....
for a 100 guests, you probably only need 70 invitations or so..... then add another 10 for mistakes and last minute guests....
