Invites are out....but single people are RSVP-ing for 2!!!

I had a hunch this might happen.

FH has single guy friends who we invited by themselves, but they RSVP'd just this week, in this way 'Number of Guests' ----> 2!!!

How would you handle this? The Envelope was addressed to just the guy...there was no
'MR. Jack Zimmer & Guest!'

I dont think all the guests are going to fit in the hall if everyone does this----HELP!!!!

When one of my cousins were getting married, they were only letting those who have serious relationships to bring a date. You have to tell your FH that he needs to address this to his friends.

you're right---but i'm worried that FH wont want to rock the boat!!!

You ahve to have single guests- it makes things fun and wouldn't you like to say that a couple met at your wedding? If you invited someone by themselves and they said they were bringing a guest, all you have to do is call that person up and tell them, calmly, that they were invited as a single-- no room for argument-- and that is that. Be sure to assure him that there will be plenty of hot simgle ladies there to entertain him whether there will be or not!

I would be confused as well b/c I thought people over 18 are supposed to be invited with a guest, but if you are tight on people FH definetely has to address his friends.

I agree 100%. I met my FH at a wedding because we both went single! Ideally, your FH will do the dirty work, but if he wont do it quick, I suggest you take charge.

There is NOTHING which requires a bride & groom to invite single people with a guest. Is it nice? Sure, but in 2006, with the cost of weddings on LI, it is not practical for most of us to allow single people to bring guests. When I say single, I mean people that are not engaged. Long term relationships, depending on their nature, might also warrant an invite to a person + guest. When I say depending on their nature, is the SO of the invited guest someone I know, or at least have met, or is it someone my friend has been keeping in the closet? Is the relationship one that has been going on so long, that will not end in marriage, where the couple is just waiting for someone better to come along so they can end it? Also how important a relationship does my friend (the invited person) think the relationship is?? Just because someone is in a long term relationship doesn't mean they consider it serious.

Case in point - my brother - who at one point was dating his GF longer than my other brother had been married (I think he & GF were together a total of 12 years). My brother had NO intention of marrying her (and didn't - she is currently happily married to someone else and has twins). He wasn't living with her, and never did. She was serious, and basically one day told him, I either get a ring for x-mas or it's over, and so it was over. He is now doing this again with another woman. NO intention of marrying her, not living with her, but together for @ 5 years. Do I invite him with her??? It's long term, but it's not serious. At this point, he is getting a solo invite.

When we sent out our invites we went through the same thing..
we allowe dit because only 3 people tried it and it backfired on us, because not only did we have more heads to pay for 2 of the people invited who chose to bring dates on their own.. DIDN'T SHOW!! So we paid extra money for no reason.. Definately say something..

Seriously, I would just deal with it and add the people. The more the merrier. I woudn;t want to have to deal with calling someone and telling them no

I think if the person is dating someone for a period of time and/or engaged they and their gues should definetely be invited. If I was invited to a wedding and I wasn't invited with a guest during the time I was dating FH I would be insulted and would not go. But if the person doesnt have a steady girlfriend/boyfriend and is just going to bring someone to bring them that is not fair b/c you are paying alot of $$$$ for their plate.

Tell your FH to grow some balls quick! These people need to be told immediately.

If your FH doesn't want to deal with it - have his Best Man address them.

'Etiquette' dictates that the BM and MOH can handle the guests who haven't RSVP'd and any confused ones...

Just wanted to add...a few years ago..before my FI and I were engaged. I was invited to my cousins wedding without my FI (who was just my BF then) and my brother was invited without his girlfriend! My cousin and his wife were on a tight budget and could only invite people who were married or were engaged with a guest.

I was annoyed BUT responded for 1 person. My mother called my aunt and asked if later if they got some 'no's' if we could bring our significant others she said only if they were below the headcount....We ended up getting to bring them.

I think you should just allow it, I think anyone over 18 should be invited with a guest. I'm a firm believer in doing things the right way or not at all. You're spending thousands of dollars on your wedding-and another handful of people can't come?

To me, the right way is to invite people who are in a relationship (whether it results in marriage or not) with their guests. It's nobody's business what kind of relationship they are having, if they are swingers, if it'll end up in married, if they break up the day after your wedding, etc. no matter.

It's etiquette, and if you know they have a boyfriend/girlfriend just allow it. I would never go to a party if FH wasn't invited before we were engaged. no way.

M&LSept1606 I think you are 100% right. Anyone over 18 should be invited with a guest. I couldnt imagine being invited without FH anywhere and would be pissed off to say the least if I wasn't. Etiquette wise it is the correct thing to do. I would be embarrassed not to. I think it is just plain rude not to invite someone with a guest especially when you know they are dating someone.

I think she said the guys are single... not sure if this makes a difference...

That's my worst fear!

Etiquette is one thing, but having 40 or more ppl than expected is another.

To prevent this, I put the following on my RSVPs:

'...Of our ____ guests,
____ will attend'

and I intend on filling in the top line for distant friends, etc, who I don't want bringing their whole neighborhood. I don't think I'll ever put 1 guest in though. I would put 2 in, for example, if I know sumone has a big family, but i'm only inviting the adults.

I hope this isn't too rude!
