Re: invites - black tie wording??
i was going to do Black Tie Only, but FH and I discussd that we are doing Black Tie Optional...the reason is beacuse I know many of our friends don't have tuxes and they will have to go out and rent one, so will some family memebers...we don't want to incovenience anyone, plus we don't want it to come out of gift...lol

Re: invites - black tie wording??
I am writing 'Evening Attire Please' on mine since I am having an afternoon event ...
I think 'Black Tie Optional' is best. When people see that, even if they don't have a tux, they'll wear a suit and make sure they look super snazzy.

Re: invites - black tie wording??
I'm am putting black tie optional because I know a lot of my friends prefer to wear a gown and a lot of my family own tuxes.
I am having a Sunday Eve wedding. Is that inappropriate?
I figure it's letting people know if you want to get dressed up you can but it's not a requirement.

Re: invites - black tie wording??
To be honest-we didnt put anything to this affect on our invites-for our guests it was common sense that they couldnt wear jeans and tank tops. NO ONE showed up looking a hot mess. If you want you can put 'formal reception' or 'black tie optional'
I personally dont like the 'black tie' optional b/c I feel that makes people think they need to be over the top elegant->unless that is what you want

I personally don't love 'Black Tie Optional' ... it seems a little wishy-washy to me ... either you want them in formal tuxedos or you don't. I think it leaves people unsure of what you are expecting of them.
We put 'Formal Attire' on our reception cards.

Re: invites - black tie wording??
In a nut shell, black tie MEANS tuxes for ALL men and gowns for the women. i think if you're really not expecting that, it makes people crazy if they don't really have that attire....
black tie optional insinuates, please dress up nicely.... ALL mean should be in a suit and the ladies should be in a cocktail dress.
I don't like it on an invitation right after the name of the church or the date and location...think it looks tacky and takes away from the invite. on my reply card, i put FORMAL reception at..... blah, blah. the word formal says 'please dress up but it's not black tie.'

Re: invites - black tie wording??
I prefer getting an invite that says black tie optional/invited. This way I know I won't be over dressed. I hate buying dresses, much prefer gowns and I know most of my friends do as well.
