I have a big question to ask...I have been conflicted about this and have been thinking about it a lot recently....On my father's side I have never really been that close to his family and I was wondering if it would go against guidelines of a wedding to not invite them at all??? I mean cus I would rather people I like, and honestly people I see and speak with on a daily basis to attend the wedding as opposed to me inviting my father's side of the family simply because they are related....Thank you :)

Re: Invites-In regards to family
I'm going through the same situation except my mother has never gotten along with some of my dad's side of the family (their part). I'm probably not inviting them. It's a tough situation. I'd go with inviting people you really like and who like you. Good Luck :)

Do you think they would come if you don't speak to them that often? I would def. speak to your family about it first.

I would say talk to your dad, just to make sure it won't upset or offend him that you aren't inviting some people from his side. But ultimately, if you aren't close with them and would rather not have them there, I'd say don't invite them! Remember, you are spending money to have them there. If they aren't people who you would buy a gift for or even take them out to dinner, why would you spend hundreds of dollars for their presence at your wedding? JMO!

I think if you keep it simple, like only the siblings of that side (not their children or great aunts, etc) it would make sense and justified. My dad is one of 9, so I am keeping it to his siblings and only about 5 cousins that I actually grew up with. It's teh way other cousins have doen it for their weddings and I was okay with not being invited.
