It's standard to do the inner envelope right? Even if I'm having a slightly less formal daytime wedding? I feel like it's unneccessary but i've never seen a wedding invite without an inner envelope
i have to order these stupid things already

i'm not doing an inner envelope. we're having a daytime wedding too and i didn't think our invites really needed it

Re: Invites - inner envelope?
I really don't think its necessary.
I did one but my invites were all white and I wanted to incorporate the cranberry color for my wedding so I did the lining of the inner envelope in this color.
I guarantee, no one noticed or cared :)
Save the money and skip it if you want!

My invites come with an inner envelope, i'm just not paying the extra money to have the foil liner

Re: Invites - inner envelope?
yeah, mine don't come with one so i was going to skip it. I was also going to skip the reception card since the ceremony is at the RH, and just do 'reception immediately following ceremony'
Am I being overly cheap? I'm really not, there are just certain things i hate spending money on.

Re: Invites - inner envelope?
I dont get it either, you have to formally address the outer envelope and then personally write your guests names informally on the inner so they know who they are allowed to bring.
then they don't get that their kids were not addressed on the inner and they think they can bring them and RSVP for the whole darn family.........which want to also bring dates
yeah, I got off on a tangent
I have inner envelopes because they came with my invites
no, you don't need them

Re: Invites - inner envelope?
It was included in our 'invitation package'. I think its just really to protect the invitation from the post office handling but I could be wrong....

Re: Invites - inner envelope?
Oh crap! I ordered my invites already (they are probably being delivered today) but i didn't put 'reception immediately following' My ceremony is at the reception hall as well, do you think people will understand that its all at one place? I didn't do a reception card either.

when i asked my sister, she was like 'well the inner envelope is where you get informal and address it to their names'.... and I said well that's just dumb.
but i really can't remember ever not getting one, and that's why it's bugging me.

well they will figure it out when they see the direction cards and the ceremony location, I think.

its a conspiracy by the post office to bump up our postage and make big money!

You don't have to have one, I didn't, but mostly because I used a pocketfold.

Re: Invites - inner envelope?
I have an innner envelope & primarily b/c I have the invite, response card & envelope, reception card & direction card... so I wanted the inner envelope to hold all this stuff (and they can toss the outer envelope). If you only have a few pieces- I don't think it's necessary...

You're right! i just panicked for a second! I just thought about the older people who are used to going to a church first. I'm sure it will be fine!

that's a good idea though... i'm going to have the invite, response and direction cards so maybe it makes sense too... hm...

it's $.30 an envelope. so for 100 it's $30.

Re: Invites - inner envelope?
The inner envelope is not necessary, but i really wanted one because it does clarify who is invited to the wedding. The outer envelope is just supposed to have 'mr. and mrs. smith', and then inner is supposed to have 'mr. and mrs. smith (if you want to be more informal you would right 'Jack and Jill' for instance) and then their children's names below if you wanted to invite kids. BUT if your not inviting kids than this would be the spot to leave off their names. Also if inviting someone with a guest you would just write 'ms. smith' on the outer envelope and then 'ms. smith and guest' on the inner envelope. HTH!
