I am DIYing my invites. My mom feels that I should send all the invite card to be offset printed b/c the raised lettering 'makes' the invite.
my POV is people are going to throw these out anyway and as long as the information given is correct, it doesnt matter if i print them myself, send them out to be done or have carrier pigeons relay the info. lol
how important is raised lettering (letter press i think its called) to you???

Re: Invites: Raised lettering POLL
I really did want it, but it was just so much more expensive and I decided I'd rather spend the money elsewhere. I couldn't justify it....so we DIYed and I'm happy with how they came out!

I am using letter press, and if you are designing the invites yourself it really isn't that much $ to send them out for letter press. It is not raised print though, it is more like engraved.
I think it really adds something nice! This place is very affordable! Places quoted me $1200 to do what I designed myself and had printed here for $200.
Good luck!

Re: Invites: Raised lettering POLL
Raised printing is actually called thermography....and something else but I forget what. Letter press is when the wording is pressed INTO the paper so it's not raised. Also very expensive, but different.
It's def. up to you, but for me thermography was a must.

I don't think its necessary if your overall invitation is nice. It does look good, but half the time people don't notice. Its better to save your money on the little things for the nicer bigger things.

I honestly don't notice something like that, nor would I hold it against anyone for not having raised letters.

Re: Invites: Raised lettering POLL
i really wanted letterpress, but couldnt fit it in my budget. Regular print was even alot! (for my pocketfolds). I was sad at first, but got over it. My invite will still look great! and if ppl have something to say then thats just sad for them

Re: Invites: Raised lettering POLL
i work for a printer and didn't do raised (thermography) on my invites. Why? honestly think anyone cares if its raised or not - i certainly don't and i work in the business.
I rather have a good solid design to me that is more important. I did two color design and with my monogram thermography was not a option because when you raise type and/or graphics it can fill in. I had a huge 'stamp' monogram which would of filled in.
