Invites - VENT

I usually keep to myself but couldn't help writing this time. Please bear w/ my rant!

FH and I have been engaged and planning this wedding for a year and a half and are paying for most of it. We are currently working on our handmade invites (by Kendra Berry who is awesome BTW) and our list of people to invite. When FH and I booked our date at Majestic Gardens we agreed on 100 people total and figured on inviting about 125 and banking on about 20% not coming. Now after being engaged for so long our families are coming out of the woodwork in the past few days w/ more people to invite! Now our list is about 150! I mean we're talking about people we don't know, co workers, people our families haven't seen in 20 years! Granted, I usually say 'the more the merrier' but not when we are footing the bill at 105 + tax & tip per plate! GRRRR!!!!!!!!!! Maybe if they told us about these people we could have set aside extra dough, but now we're to the wire when we got everything to finish paying for!

Tell your families they will have to foot the bill for these additional guests! I don't think there is anything wrong with explaining that your savings was based on X number of ppl and you can do that but the cost of additional x ppl equals x dollars and that is not in your budget.

Be diplomatic but firm. FH and I are paying for our wedding ourselves as well. Anyone that our families wanted to invite after our final number we told them to compile a list in preference order and give it to us around March. We will invite anyone that we can (on their B list) when we recieve no's from our main list. If they are not comfortable with that it is unfortunate but we were not willing to have more than a set amount of ppl at our wedding.

That is a great idea! I wish I posted this sooner! I hope I am not too far beyond that point to do so! Thanks for being awesome and replying w/ a great idea!
