Invites.. Would you?

DIY your invitations?

If you have made your own or are currently working on them.. would you do it again?

Heres some background... im a hard core crafter and have always thought i would make my own, but after making 100 save the dates I swore i would never do it again. Now, im starting to look into invites and cant find anything i like for the price i want and i plan on doing the rest of my sationary myself, so id like it to all match.

I just dont know if all of that work is worth it again
what would you do?

you sound like you want us to convince you to do it...lol
i know its a lot of work..I've done some other diy's including owrking on programs and it takes a lot out of ya.

I got my invites for fairly cheap and they are great! I didnt want anything TOO over the top...just wanted elegant classy and simple.. Theres a pic in my album. I used a site called

www.toinvite.com

they have TONS of discount invites and I got them all in 3 days after the order was placed...
and they were $350 for 175.

I did my own invites, would I do it again? ONLY if i had more time bc when I did mine I had only one week to do it.

I had ordered invites from this lady, although i knew how to make them I really didn't want to deal with any of it before the wedding and save myself the trouble. Well she messed up and instead of having them done by middle of march, she said i would receive them april 19th my wedding was May 17th so i dont know what she was thinking, especially since I also PAID to have a rush order but she forgot. So I had to work quickly to get it done in one week.

I do have to say that I did feel great about it after. I loved how it came out and had that sense of accomplishment. It was real nice when I had people complimenting my invites and I would say I made them myself and people would be shocked, so that was nice. Even DH's friends called and said how nice the invites were and he would always tell everybody how i did it myself

Re: Invites.. Would you?

Question for all of you ladies. I'm only having approximately 80-100ppl (55-65 invites) at our wedding so I feel like DIY invites wouldn't be too much of a hassle, but I'm concerned that they'll LOOK DIY . Are there invites you can buy in a heavier card stock that look really elegant? Since I don't have too many to do I wouldn't mind putting a little more elbow grease into putting them together if it meant the end product was really nice. What was your experience on how they came out? Did you print them yourselves?

well I used a heavy cardstock, i didnt want to skim on this. I used stardream collection and its a very good quality cardstock, its what most invitation companies use themselves. But I also had to buy the rhinestone buckles, the ribbon elsewhere. I also used white linen paper for the part with the verse on it. My printer was really messed up and wasn't printing well at all or most of the time it just wouldn't want to print lol, i did get a new one recently but when i did invites it didnt work. So i did use a printing company just to do the printing part.

Here are my invites, just the main part, i also did response card and reception card. Plus i put them in a box with cardstock on top of the box and calligraphy written on the cardstock and then a ribbon around the box.

Wow, yours are REALLY beautiful! I would be thrilled if mine came out like that. If you don't mind my asking: Where did you buy the different items from? What printing company did you use? And how much did the different items cost you? I'd love to do all of the different components myself if I could have them be this elegant AND save money. Any info would be REALLY appreciated!! Thanks!

I am very crafty/artsy myself, so I figured 'hey, I can do these'.

It turned out to be a NIGHTMARE for me. I would've paid millions of dollars to have someone do it for me, than to do it myself. I mean there are girls on here who did their own and they look gorgeous. I guess I just wasn't cut out for it.

But, If you have the patience and the time to put into it, go for it. I just know that if I ever had to do this again, I would pay someone else to do it haha

I was planning to but couldnt' find any good paper. I went with Tessa to do my invites because she was able to do the graphic design. If you thought STDs were rough, I would just buy the invites. You can always sned the STD to TEssa and ask her to make something similar for you so they match. www.evenstarpaperie.com

the cardstock I bought from paper presentation in manhattan. This store is amazing, its huge and has EVERYTHING in there you could spend hours there lol. The good thing is they also cut the paper for me to the size i needed and only charged me $6 for ALL the paper I had to cut. Its good bc response cards and reception cards you can get like 4 of them out of 1 cardstock. Also depending on the size of the invite you can get 2 invites out of 1 cardstock after its cut. Which helps bc stardream can be a bit more pricey than other cardstock.

Ribbon-i bought from the wholesale district in manhattan. It costs less than regular stores.

Rhinestone buckles-also bought from a wholesale company. Its not a store they sell to businesses and anyone looking to buy in bulk. Its right by the garment district, its an office in a building but you can call to make an appointment. They were real nice and great selection. The place is called jablonex.

For the boxes-i bought also at wholesale box place in long island called fetpak. I was able to go in person to pick it up, again not a store they usually sell to businesses but will sell to you if you buy in bulk.

Printing-MIL called up the printing company they use at her job and asked the lady to do it. Its located somewhere in the mid-west. So she called her and told her that i wanted the white linen cardstock, i e-mailed her the info such as size and the verse to be printed on the cardstock and she expressed the package and had it within 2 days.

as far as price goes, i had to make 200 invites so was a bit more pricey. At paper presentation it was good bc if you bought like 3 packages of cardstock you get one free or half price i forgot but you did get a discount. Maybe about $100 for all the cardstock but i also need lots of it, i bought 2 different cardstocks from paper presentation for the invite, one was chocolate brown the other was a diamond type color. Not only that but i used 2 cardstocks on the outside of the boxes, one was the same diamond color and the other was antique gold. I also bought a little more than i needed.

Rhinestone buckles were about $1 each, just a few cents over a dollar

ribbon-i paid about $18 for 100 yards i think

boxes, it was $50 for 100 boxes about they sell them by either 50 boxes or 100 boxes

Thank you so so much Espo22!! That was as comprehensive as I could've hoped for. I think I'll definitely stop by each of those places. You're info is SUPER helpful!!

you're very welcome. And for about 100 invites it can cost you $300-400 to make it, maybe even less.

Re: Invites.. Would you?

I say if you have the time, DO IT! I am making my invites - pocketfolds - and althoug it is time-consuming, I do find it seriously satisfying to know that I put so much love into my invites. People who know that I made them are so impressed and they are cheaper than what I would pay if I had the same ones done by someone else! Good Luck! If you love crafting, you'll find it relaxing - just START EARLY! (LIKE NOW!)

I made mine and I would definitely do it again. I love having the personal seal on them. The only thing I would change is starting earlier and giving myself more time to complete them.

Good luck with whichever way you decide to go.
