I'm inviting a married female doctor to the wedding, and her husband is not a doctor. How do I word the invitation? Do I put her name first because her title is 'higher'?
Like Dr. Jane Smith and Mr. John Smith?
TIA!

Re: Inviting a married female doctor....
I believe it's:
Mr. Joe Smith and Dr. Jane Smith
I can't find the Emily Post article to confirm though. Sorry!

The woman actually goes first in this scenario; I quadruple-checked.
Dr. Elizabeth Smith and Mr. Joseph Smith

Re: Inviting a married female doctor....
Nothing I read seemed to explain the rationale. It all just said that if the wife is a doctor and the husband is not, the woman's name goes first.

Re: Inviting a married female doctor....
Title takes precedent over gender so that sounds right. Sorry for the wrong information above!

Re: Inviting a married female doctor....
Official titles always go first, so things like dr & rev trump mr.

Agreed, it is Dr. and Mr. So and So. I'm a Dr and have lots of Dr friends who are female and married and this is the proper way
