We are very close to our priest so we are inviting him. I have not seen priests at most receptions that I have been to, so I believe that this is not a mandatory practice.
I think it is polite to invite them, but I think it depends on the relationship you have with them. I've seen where the clergy stayed for the cocktail hour and then did a blessing before the food was served and then he left.
thanks, my fiance and i are different religions and will most likely be hiring clergy (as we are not members of a church right now) so i don't anticipate being close with the officiant. i just don't want it to be awkward, ya know?
i think you only need to invite tehm if you know them on a personal level. but that's JMO
We are very close to the Monsignor who married us so we invited him to the reception.
We asked our Rabbi & Deacon to stay out of politeness, they both declined and left after they got paid.
We are inviting the rabbi along with his wife - whether they will stay for the reception, we don't know.
We are inviting our Pastor and wife to the reception. Not sure if they'll come or not, but we'll extend the invite.
I think it is polite to invite them. Often times, they decline, but I would extend the invitation and let them decide.
Yea, I would definitely invite them out of courtesy. Some actually expect it and do come (they also wind up doing the blessing of the meal!)
we are inviting ours and paying for his hotel, but he also does not charge a fee. (he is traveling from DC to marry us.)
yup
