Re: Inviting co-workers??
I am in the same situation ... I worked in an office where my immediate department was 15 people that I spent all my time with in and out of the office. Times that by 2 and I had 30 people in addition to family and friends!
However, within the past 3 weeks I have since quit that job and am just going to hang out until the wedding (I'm waitressing to get the cash, but otherwise didn't want to be more stressed!)
I am now cutting that list to half b/c there are people I KNOW I will keep more in contact w/ than others.
Sorry, I got off the topic! I think if you have some close friends you KNOW you will see even after that job or outside of the job, it's ok to invite them and not the others. If someone you're not thinking of asking has the nerve to ask, I would just say you had a slight $$ set back and had to do some rearranging.

Re: Inviting co-workers??
From my office I invited the 2 people I am closest with and socialize outside of work with. I'd love to invite everyone but I just can't! I have also made it known what a spacing issue we have, hopefully that won't hurt anyone's feelings.

Re: Inviting co-workers??
here's the other thing though...i got invited to another teacher's wedding in my department in march and my fiance came with me as well. she invited most of our department and our principal! i didnt even think of inviting her, but i dont think i will anyway! so i kinda feel obligated to invite my co-workers because she invited me and i know that a lot of the young teachers invite a bunch of their co-workers to their weddings.

Re: Inviting co-workers??
im a teacher... I am also in between two buildings... right now I am thinking of inviting my whole department (about 5 people or so) from one of the buildings... and just a few that I am close to at the second building...If I was really just inviting people that I liked, i probably would only have invited 4/5 of the people in my department, but I cant just leave 1 person out....
eta: FI is also a teacher, I think he is just going to invite his whole department because he thinks it will be easier that way...
also, if i invited a co worker to my wedding and wasnt invited to theirs, i think my feelings would be a bit hurt, unless i knew they were having a super small wedding, then i wouldnt mind at all! (so if you dont invite everyone, make sure everyone overhears that you arent inviting a lot of people, and are planning a small wedding!)

Re: Inviting co-workers??
Teacher here who is inviting everyone, even the custodian! I've been working here for YEARS! I consider most of them like my family, but even the ones I'm not that close with are getting an invitation. I don't want any hurt feelings. I wouldn't be hurt if they were to decline.

Re: Inviting co-workers??
It's fine to just invite a few people that you are closest to at work. It's hard when you work with a lot of people. I'm not a teacher - but I'm a cop so I work with a lot of people that I'm pretty close with and I wanted to invite them all, but it just isnt possible. So I picked the two people that I'm closest with and everyone else seems to understand. It's your wedding and you should be with the people that you are close to on that day!

I am a teacher also. I plan to invite my principal, assistant principal and the other teachers on my grade. This is where it is sticky though, because there are a lot of teachers who work closely with my grade. There are also several teachers in other grades who I spend time with outside of school, so I definitely want to invite them. I think in total, I will probably invite about 12 people from my school.

IMO it is your wedding, invite whom you want. I work in an office of like 60 people. I invited 10 close co-workers.

Re: Inviting co-workers??
i think i am only inviting the people i am friends with outside of work..the ones i go out with and who i consider a friend, not only a coworker- i am a teacher too it would just be too many to invite everyone
still deciding about principal and vice

I'm still deciding, inviting the boss to do 'the right thing' but have to cut it off somewhere...

Re: Inviting co-workers??
I am having the same problem!!! I am an attorney and have 5 'bosses' (the partners) and then there are 3 other attorneys, one of which I am close with who is definitely getting an invite...
I feel like if I invite the bosses/partners and my friend, then there are only 2 other attorneys so I 'have to' invite them....
I don't know what to do!

Re: Inviting co-workers??
I am a teacher too! I decided not to invite the principal (In a high school I don't think that matters too much. I could see if maybe i was in the elementary school). I am though inviting my department (NEVER stray outside the department, thats when you open the can of worms) which is about 16 people. I found it soooo hard to pick and choose - I would feel silly b/c I am on friendly terms w/ everyone.
I will tell you though, I did discuss it with my friends at work and they said 'Don't invite any of us' b/c any sensible person knows how hard it is to do a guest list!
So, I guess I am just crossing my fingers that a lot of our out-of-towners don't come!
