Okay so there is a group of people that I know very well from work who's addresses I can get without a problem however I don't have access to the addresses of people like my manager and assistant manager and I can't ask the secretary for them cause I feel bad since I wouldn't be iniviting her. (Don't know her well at all) and I feel awkward asking them directly because I don't want to put them on the spot. 'Hey can I have your address cause your being invited to my wedding!'
Is it completely out of the question to hand these people invitations? Bring them in and leave them on their desks?
What would you do?

Do you have an HR person that you could ask? Maybe you can send them an email asking for their address so they won't feel put on the spot... or maybe address it to them at work? Even if you hand it to them, I would say it should still be addressed...

that's what I was thinking of doing. Addressing it to them to be deliever at work.
I could go to HR I guess but I have a feeling anyone I ask is going to give me a hard time releasing the manager's information as I work the government

Re: inviting co-workers
well i see that you are getting married in March, so maybe next year during the holiday season you can ask and say you need the addresses for your holiday cards.. or maybe you can ask another coworker to ask them, I don't know how your relationship is with people at work...

I would ask around and see if anyone else would have their address, maybe from a Christmas card list. The next best thing I guess is to send them an e-mail so you avoid the awkward face to face question.

yea see all the holiday cards are handed out in the office. No one mails them so unfortunately that wouldn't work either.
this is going to give me a headache.
There is probably one person who is going to be invited from work who might be able to get the address. Maybe I'll have to have a talk with her when the time comes. . .

you know what the best part is about the email approach? My cube faces my managers cube so I still feel like it's asking face to face.

We all have our individual mail boxes. So i'm just going to slip the invitations in their mail boxes...

I think I would not worry about this for a while longer. You have a while...

agreed. Honestly, you've got time. The christmas card thing seems like it'll be effective, or an email, which avoids announcing it to everyone if that's something that concerns you.
