Inviting Co-Workers

Inviting Co-Workers

I work in a small company and my department is made of 9 people. I just started working there in December so I am not extremely close to anyone, but I feel like I have to invite my coworkers especially my boss. I feel that if I invite one person and not the other it will be a problem, but then if I invite them all and they go, it will be an even bigger problem.
I am already nervous about the number of guests we've invited. We're expecting about 200 people but we've invited about 271. What is the standard etiquette when it comes to inviting coworkers?

Oy - we're going through the same thing (sort of). Here are some links, maybe they'll help:

I don't know what the standard etiquette is but I think you should only invite your boss if you're over inviting.
Then no one will be insulted.

I've been working at my job for several years and I could't invite everyone either and the people that weren't invited didn't seem insulted.

Re: Inviting Co-Workers

I already had a big wedding as it was, and if i was going to invite my whole office it would be hugh. So I only invited both my bosses and 2 close friends from work. If people got offended Im really sorry, but it just gets to expensive. Both my bosses said they cant come, which I expected but I figured out of respect I would invite them

Thank you for the links and yes they did help-- a lot!

I know my bosses schedules and I know for a fact they are in town and available that weekend so with that said I don't forsee a turndown. My gut said to only invite my bosses in the first place. I do think people will understand but it can be catty at times and I really don't want to have to deal with that. HMMM... I guess we'll see what happens. Thanks!

Jess125483 and I were just talking about this!

i think I'm going to start with my boss too, and then go from there. co-workers are a hard group make decisions on! although, i was talking to friend about it at work she actually said that no one would be offended if i didnt invite them and not to lose sleep over it. she went through the same thing and didnt invite ANYONE from work, not even her boss! and everyone was fine with it, people know it's tough and that guest list can certainly get out of control, and I think generally they understand.

i think since you've have not been there for too long, just include your boss first, and I dont think anyone will be upset about that.

I would definitely invite your boss and nobody else. It's so hard to invite everyone, so you can just invite the boss and leave it at that.
FH and I had similiar problems. We actually met at work, and although neither of us still works there we are very VERY close with our old co-workers.. so we invited all of our old co-workers and NONE of the new ones!!

considering you just started there i dont think anyone would be expecting an inivitation..
and if you feel you want to invite someon i think its okay if you invite just your boss..

Invite the boss. You don't have to invite the co-workers if you are not close to them.

I am inviting my two bosses out or respect, even though I know they would not attend. Only one of my co-workers is invited, because we've worked together for 12 years and have a good friendship. There is no one else at my job that I would want to share my day with.
