Inviting co-workers...all or none??

Hi Gals,

One of my coworkers is getting married the month before me. needless to say her and her FH come from wealthy familes. she invited the whole office to her wedding. it's only about a dozen of us including the boss. and she invited all of us with guests.
I'm not inviting the whole office and i'm NOT inviting my boss (i can't stand her and neither can anyone else!) I was only going to invite 1 or 2 of my co-workers that i'm close with, but i know it will get out and i don't want others to be offended that they weren't invited
so should i not invite them if i can't invite all of them???
Also is anyone inviting their boss's to the wedding? Just curious.
Thanks.

I am in the same exact situation as you. I plan on inviting no one from my office. They're currently on the C list, I will order enough invitations if I have to use them, but it's 18 people and 2 tables assuming they all come, with a guest, and that's something I can't commit to right now. A coworker of mine is getting married in the summer, and I don't know what his plans are in terms of invites. I suppose if he doesn't invite me to his wedding, then I shouldn't feel obligated to invite the office either.

I personally think you can invite the ones you want from the office. everyone knows that you are closer to some folks than others and that makes sense. . if people get offended they will get over it. .. if the idea that some people might get miffed is harder for you to deal with than having the folks you want there then no one. .

My boss didn't invite our entire team to her wedding-it would have been WAYY to many people, she just invited about 5 people that she was closest to (and they all have worke together for over 10 years)..

For me I'm only inviting my known 'friends' that I work with but I consider some of my besties, my 2 bosses, and the 3 people I manage.

I think in total for work people invited it's about 12 people, plus their guests..out of a team of 30. Its very fair, and I make it a point to NOT talk about it in front of those who aren't invited.

I suppose it must be more difficult within a smaller office. I work for a large firm and I invited the group I work with and a few close friends I have within the company.

I agree, i work for a large company as well so inviting all of them is totally not an option, but i am inviting my bosses and the ppl that i socialize with. comes to 12 ppl, 24 with spouses but we have a lot of corporate functions that spouses are invited to so I'm friendly with the spouses of those that I invited

honestly, since your office is so small.. I wouldnt invite anybody ... and if you were to invite somone, it should def be your boss IMHO because you work directly for that person... so if you arent going to invite her (and it will get out) then you shouldnt invite others either

This is a tough situation and one that I struggled with as well. In the end, I decided not to invite anyone. We are having a small wedding and we can't afford to invite everyone from my group and I felt really bad only inviting the two people that I am close with.

I did the same thing.. The finance department where I work is over 30 people and that just could NOT happen.. I didn't want anyone to feel left out to I opted not to invite anyone from my department.

It's difficult in a small office, I am one of 5 in the office and for me, I will really have to invite all of them. I would prefer not to invite my DB boss but how can I invite everyone else and not him? Anyway, it amounts to 8 people with their spouses so I'm just going to suck it up and do it. Hopefully he won't come because he's cheap and won't want to have to give a gift
