I've heard mixed reviews on this board regarding this subject. I have no prior relationship w/my officiant, but at the last meeting we had she was asking me about what stations we will be having at the CH and what entrees we chose...then she said 'i'll remember to save my appetite that day'.
So, from that comment, it sounds like she's assuming that she'll be staying for the reception. I did not send her an invite, not sure if that's a major screw up on my part, but I just felt like she's a vendor getting paid a lot of $$$.
So...if she does stay for dinner, does the officiant sit with family or with the other vendors (photographer & dj)????

Re: Inviting Officiant
I am inviting my officiant to stay, but I will invite her verbally. But I am only inviting her because I LOVE!!! her. She is so great, I think it would be wonderful if she stuck around. I am going to invite her on the cruise the night before too, even tho we aren't having a RD.

Re: Inviting Officiant
Most people do invite the officiant, I am not sure if it is proper ettiquette or what, but that was always what I was lead to believe. Since mine is a friend of the family, he will be sitting with my FH's family.

Re: Inviting Officiant
I have no intentions of inviting our officiants, we're having a priest and a rabbi. We are paying them a lot of money for 20 minutes of service and I refuse to shell out the money to cover their plates. If they invited themselves I would simply have my dad 'uninvite' them the day of the wedding. They're welcome to stay for the CH, it's not like they do a head count, but as soon as people go into the ballroom, I want them to leave. They're not family and they're not friends, so I really have no interest in sharing my day with them. I really don't mean to sound like a biatch, but that's how I feel about it.

In 100% TOTAL AGREEMENT!!!!
My Rabbi is ridiculously expensive and my priest gave us a 'required donation' amount, which I think we will be giving less anyways...

Re: Inviting Officiant
I met with one and I came right out and asked her in our first meeting if she stays for the wedding. She said she would stay after the ceremony for a while and grab a bite to eat at the CH, then make a quite exit!
