Inviting old friends you don't talk to anymore?

Inviting old friends you don't talk to anymore?

OK experts--

I'm trying to make up my guest list, and I'm having a bit of a dilemma... I have two old friends that I used to work with 3 years ago. I went to both of their weddings, but after I left, we kind of lost touch, they are busy with their husbands, and I went to grad school and changed careers.

Anyway, we really haven't kept in touch... I'm trying to get my guest list down to size, should I invite them or not? Would it be rude? I contacted them last, and did not receive a response. Also, my FH doesn't really like them all that much...

Thanks for your opinions!!

You don't talk to them then NO!! If they pop up again just explain your keeping it small.

I have a friend that calls me whenevr he wants. He lives 2 min from my house & never met my son who's 2. He decides to call me 2-3 months before I was getting married & asked if he would be invited. I told him no staight out. I said I haven't seen you in over 2 years. I had to draw the line somewhere!!

I agree, we had the same problem and decided to only invite those we plan to be in touch with now & in the future

That sounds like a no to me! Just because you went to their weddings doesn't mean you have to invite them to yours. It was 3 years ago and you don't stay in touch.

The previous advice of explaining you are keeping it small should be fine. say you wish you could, but $$ is an issue, etc etc..

My rule is if you just miss them, and want them there, invite them. we would understand if some of the people on our invite list backed out and not considering them def. 'yesses' for this reason, but we just hope to see them there.

but i think its your call. we're not having issues with our guest list size, but if we did i'd feel exactly like you. Good luck!

I had a similar prob - my college friends that I lost touch with. I decided that only people that were the most important to us should be at our wedding. It's your day - do it your way!!

I would have to say NO. It doesn't sound likely that you would be in contact with them after the wedding.

I had a similar problem with 2 childhood friends. We decided that if they weren't an important part of our lives now that it would drive the decision. Close family & friends only.

I agree NO although it easier said then done. I have friends that I worked with and I dont Work at that Joba anymore. They were invited to my e-party but... I will be putting them on the B list same with friends from High School. I had one group of friends we did everything together. We went to the prom together we hung out but after High School we went to college and lost touch. We see each other around the town sometimes. They will be on my B list also.

I probably wouldn't invite them due to the fact that they didn't respond when you last tried to contact them. Based on this fact, they really shouldn't get offended

I wouldn't invite them if they haven't responded to you and you've basically lost touch.

I have a similar situation, but much worse. I was best friends with a girl in high school, and actually met FH when I was 18 because I was dating his best friend at the time, who my best friend introduced me to. Cut to 4 years later after I had fallen out of touch with both FH and my best friend (she and I had a huge falling out). I had sent her a letter trying to see if we could make an attempt to patch up our past and become friends again, and she wound up inviting me to a New Year's Eve party. The only reason I went was because she told me FH might be there and I hadn't seen him in 4 years and was really curious about what he was up to. Anyway, we wound up together from the moment we saw each other at that party. Needless to say, she and I never really became friends again, and FH and she have barely spoken to each other the last couple of years. Here's the rub: my parents are friendly with her mother and her grandparents. I have to invite her mother and grandparents (they've already assumed they are invited ), but we haven't spoken to the girl in a really long time. She moved in with her boyfriend and never even told FH (who was really the only one of the two of us she ever spoke to) that she moved. We don't know her address, haven't spoken to her in about 2 years, but we're inviting her mother and grandparents. I can't stand the thought of shelling out money for her and her BF, and the fact that she takes credit for the fact that FH and I are getting married (no - it wasn't the 4 years that we've put into this relationship through thick and thin that counts - it's the invitation to the party where we met up again that is the reason we're getting married - DUH!).

So, do I have to invite her? Moreover, if I have to invite her, do I have to invite her BF? I wouldn't even care if my parents didn't still see her mother/grandparents and just wouldn't invite her. I don't think my parents will care much either way, although I'm sure they'll get an earful from her relatives. What do you think?

When we were planning our wedding-I straight out told DH, that if we do not communicate with people on a fairly regular basis, then they will NOT be invited.

So to answer your question- No,you do not have to invite them.

Considering that they haven't responded to your last attempt at contacting them, and your cutting your list, and FH doens't like them, I wouldn't invite them.

I WOULD NOT INVITE THEM. MY MOTTO IS 'IF I DO NOT TALK TO YOU ON A REGULAR BASIS THERE'S NO NEED TO WASTE AN PERFECTLY GOOD,EXPENSIVE INVITATION ON YOU!' IT'S THEIR LOST.

I say no things change I am sure if you still were close you would have no dought but I am sure they would feel the same way about being invited.
