Inviting people from work

Inviting people from work

I moved to Florida in July for a job in August. Now, I am wondering do I invite these people to a wedding in NY?

I am pretty friendly with a bunch of people. What do I do?

I think they would understand that you didn't invite them since you are having the wedding in NY & they live in FL. I don't think you have to invite them.

I don't want them to think I was being rude, but I think it would be too much to fly to NY during the holidays for a wedding.

I wouldn't invite them. I wouldn't expect my co-workers to travel that far for my wedding. You have to look at co-workers for what they are. Yes, a few you will become friends with. Do you see these people outside of work? Do you call them on the weekends just to talk? Chances are probably not. I'm more than sure they will understand.

I wouldn't invite them either. It's one thing for relatives or close friends to travel for a wedding, but for coworkers it's too much.

no! dON't bother.

I'm up in mass. and I'm glad. They liked it because they didn't feel obligated to give a gift.

I'm considering not inviting people I've worked with for 6 years. I don't think I could invite people I've worked with for two months, especially one that required that much travel.

Do you still work for them?

If you do, I would send an invite. I wouldn't think they will feel obligated to go to the wedding. They would most likely kindly decline.

If you no longer work with them, I would say don't invite them. They wouldn't get offended.

I was at my job for 4 years when I got married and I didn't invite anyone. The fact of the matter was I couldn't pick and choose and I wasn't willing to pay for everyone when we had to cut some of our friends. I did bring them all favors from my wedding though.

Yea I guess it makes sense. I just didn't want to offend anyone.

I wouldnt invite them. I am getting married in NY and I work here as well. I only invited my boss to my wedding. It would have been too many people and too much money.

I wouldn't invite them, but I think bringing them a favor is a nice idea, espcially if they throw you a work wedding shower.

I know I am going to invite some people I work with.

I work in a small company (20-30 people), but I couldn't by any means invite everyone, even considering I've been working there 6 years.

I invited the people in my department (4 people), the owner/my boss, and a couple people in my building I'm close with. in all, about 8 invitations. Half declined, the other half are happy to be invited.

As for the rest of the company, while we are friendly, they didn't say a peep about the lack of invitation. They understood. Heck, the billing department chipped in and got me a bottle of champagne as a gift! *L*
I also extended a verbal 'feel free to stop by' invitation to the ceremony since we will have a bit of extra room in the back, and I don't have to pay PP for that!

I don't think you should invite them, esp if they may feel obligated to buy you a gift. Anyone in my office who got married outside of the NY area didn't invite anyone from the office. If it comes up you can just explain it-they should understand.

I did the same thing. I'm in Florida now. I invited my office out of courtesy, knowing they probably wouldn't go and just wanting to do the right thing (I'm an attorney and it's common practice to invite the other attorneysi to the wedding in my office)... anyway, as it turns out, two coworkers are actually flying to NY for my wedding!!!!
