I was just wondering the etiquette invloved with inviting people not really 'involved' without a date to my wedding.
I mean why should I pay for a random person they just ask to come along, but then again is it rude to send and invite without guest included.
I have a specific girlfriend who I wasnt even really planning on inviting to the wedding but I have been seeing alot of her lately and she is friends with everone else invited to the wedding so now I am thinking maybe I should invite her but she doesnt have a steady boyfriend would it be totally tacky not to invite her with a guest?
I plan on inviting a couple of my brothers fiends without dates but I think thats a littel different.
Should I just invite her with a guest or not at all?

Re: Inviting singles
I am having the same dilemma. We have to cut our list signifcantly and this would help but half our list is from out of town. I don't know if some of my pals would feel comfortable coming to NY alone (Me and FH live in the DC area)

Re: Inviting singles
Believe me - I was just through that with my FH as we finalized our guest list - it's not pretty! For the most part, we included everyone with a guest, unless we know they can attend the wedding with another family member.
I just didn't want to to single out anyone not currently dating someone, since most of our friends are attached.

Re: Inviting singles
It's your call. Etiquette-wise, you don't have to invite guests with dates unless you know your guest is seriously involved with somone. As long as the rule is applied fairly, you're fine. If she knows a lot of people at the wedding, I'm sure she'll be fine. If she doesn't, or wouldn't want to go unless she could bring some random person with her so she's not stuck going alone, then she can might not attend, which from your note, doesn't sound like a big deal.
Personally, I'm inviting singles with dates -- even those who'll bring somone random. I was single a long time before I met my FI, and goin to a wedding by yourself stinks. Even though I knew a lot of people, they were always busy entertaining their own guests/escorts. I rarely had a chance to dance and I was often bored out of my mind because I didn't have someone to talk to (pathetic, I know, but true nonetheless). I'm having a small wedding, so only close friends/relatives are coming and I want them all to have a good time, even if it means a few random guests show up...

Etiquette wise you are fine. I know some friends who have gone single to weddings and unless you have a huge group of single friends with you it stinks. If all of your friends are single and none are invited with guests then it is okay, but you shouldn't pick and chose who is invited with a guest and who isn't. JMO.

Re: Inviting singles
We just went through the 'guest' discussion. My fiance thinks it's inconsiderate to invite people without guests. I'm torn. We're trying to keep our wedding small and it's turned out to be very expensive, so I really don't feel like wasting a seat and all that money on some random date. I don't think you should feel obligated to invite a single guest with a date. I think there are a lot of mixed feelings on this subject.... Good luck !!

I think it is ok for you to invite single people who are not in a serious relationship. You said this girl will know a lot of people there, so its not like she will be sitting at a table full of strangers by herself.

Re: Inviting singles
We are inviting everyone with a guest whether they are dating someone or seeing someone steadily. I feel that my single friends would probably not just pick up Joe Schmo to bring to a wedding if they knew someone there (which they will whether it is a co-worker or a friend). I would rather give them the option and I agree, going to a wedding alone stinks and my FI didn't go to some when we were dating in the beginning since I wasn't invited.

Re: Inviting singles
I agree that etiquette wise you are okay. i was in a similiar situation too. I am inviting many friends from work only a few of which are single. I always thought that i would invite the single people without a guest as so many other brides do for work related guests. One of the girls i would like to invite was complaining one day about a different wedding she was attending where she was invited without a guest and how horrible it made her feel. She explained that even though she will be with all her other friends in a group and know many people there, she won't have a date by her side and she feels like the odd man out. With that being said i decided to invite all the single people from work with a guest too. In my case though it is not too many people so I can afford to do it. It truly is up to you though.

Re: Inviting singles
We were not going to invite people with guests unless they had a significant other or spouse bt when it came down to it we did invite people with guests b/c we didn't think it was fair to ask people to come alone, especially if they didn't know anyone at the wedding. I know that I probably would not attend a wedding if I was invited alone and didn't know anyone that I could hang out with. Just my opinion.

Re: Inviting singles
Just my 2 cents...
we decided to invite everyone with guests...and it brought my numbers WAY up! but can I tell you...I'm now at my minimum, b/c nobody is bringing a date...Its going to be a singlefest...lol
I won't say that this will happen to you, but I was happy that I did invite everyone with a guest.

I invited singles without dates unless they were engaged or living together.

Re: Inviting singles
We invited singles with guests. I too have been to a couple of weddings alone and it was not much fun even when I was at a table with a bunch of friends. I know it's an added expense but I want our guests to enjoy themselves.

Re: Inviting singles
I invited all singles w/ guests only b/c I used to get sooo mad when close friends of mine invited me without a guest if I wasnt'involved' I felt funny doing it to people when I was disappointed when it was done to me, now we have more people but what are you going to do. even the singles either are seeing someone or have a friend, no one wants to go to a wedding alone especially when everyone dances to slow songs

We invited all the singles with guests, but most of them chose to come by themselves. No one wanted to 'baby sit' a casual date.

Re: Inviting singles
Wow thanks for all the replies, the girl i am talking about is part of a big group of friends where there might be another 2 or 3 I might invite solo too so i'm sure it will be ok, I also plan on inviting a couple of my little brothers friends and for 21 year old single guys I dont think they will mind either.
