We are getting married next year and are starting to make a list of address and getting down names again. ( It feels like the 100th list we have made!) We are paying for the whole wedding by ourselves, and only are inviting people with there partners if they are married, enagaged or living together, or if they do not know a single sole at the wedding. I have one friend who will know a bunch of people at the wedding single as well as married etc. She keeps saying how she has to find a date for my wedding. Do I wait to tell her by sending her the invitation without 'and guest' or do I mention it now??? Besides the fact I do not want total strangers at the wedding and in my photos.

Re: Inviting with a date....
I think you might want to mention it. I had a friend with a similar situation, and she decided to send the invitation without 'and guest'. The girl ended up bringing a date anyway, not realizing that she couldn't. Better to be safe and let her know the situation, I'm sure she will understand.

Re: Inviting with a date....
This is my opinion..
But I think its VERY rude not to invite without a guest if they are over the age of 18.. I know how I would feel if I was that age and just dating someone and wanted them to come..
Not everyone who has a date will be in your pictures.. I NEVER heard of that!

Re: Inviting with a date....
But if the person is bringing a date just to bring a date, thats a waste of your $50 or whatever. It'll (sometimes) end up just being a friend or someone they break up with a month down the line. It shouldn't be expected if they aren't in a SERIOUS relationship. Theres nothing wrong with 'no guest'. If your budget can't handle it, get rid of the guests.

Re: Inviting with a date....
FH and I are facing the same issues..... Not only for the wedding, but for the E-party. It got our faces in trouble with family and caused some major stress, but I was thinking like you... No serious relationship, No Guest...all in the matters of saving myself some $$$, because we are paying for everything ourselves. His Brother is getting married in May. His future wife has a 18 yr old daughter, who we haven't even meet. She is never around or in the picture. So we sent out the invite 'Mr.xyz and abc' Well, his brother calls us up saying 'did you just forget about my 'step-daughter' or was it a mistake? Well, we reconsidered and ****ed it up. We said, sure bring her along. We didn't invite her from the begining, because 1. we didn't think she had to be inivted to our E-party. We don't even know her, nor is she ever at any family functions. 2. she is 18 yrs old, out on her own...why would she want to go to some strangers E-party. So okay, she is coming. Next thing you know, we get a phone call. Hi this is your brother calling, just wanted to let you know the 'FOUR' of us will be coming. 'Four' I was like...who is the '4th one?' So angry, because I wanted my E-party to be small and just close family and wedding party. So they just assumed that the 'daughter' could bring a guest. Mind you, she doesn't even have a serious boyfriend. Acutally from what I have heard, she has '2' boyfriends at the time. I was like 'great' more money being spent on someone I don't even know or care to have at my party... so without hesitating, I had to put my foot down. We approached his Brother, because FH agreed with me and told him 'NO' to a guest. His brother was fuming and now all H@*% has broken out. We don't even know if any of them will be attending at this point. FH's 'rents are ****ed at us for causing such havic in the family, but quite frankly I don't care, because of the way his brother reacted. His brother is a 40 yr old grown man and this will be his 2nd wife. Give me a break So moral of my story is... PEOPLE WILL BE OFFENDED AND UPSET, so as I did after the fact... think twice about what you choose to do. May it not be what you exactly want...sometimes you just got to **** it up. I hate to say it, because it is as if we 'brides' need to please everyone else for our 'wedding' day instead of ourselves which really SUCKS. I just wish people didn't become so selfish when it comes to their family's or friend's weddings. GOOD LUCK

Re: Inviting with a date....
I say give it some time before you tell her that you won't be inviting a guest. A lot can change in a year, who knows, maybe in looking for a date for your wedding, she could end up in a serious relationship by then. But maybe now, you could start mentioning how much it's costing pp, and that you're paying for the whole thing, and that you don't want to pay for guests that you don't know. This way, she'll know the deal, but you won't have to actually tell her yet.

Re: Inviting with a date....
I dont know if this idea is realistic, but maybe for those people you think will pick a random date to bring address the invite their name & 'Significant other', instead of 'guest', so that maybe theyll think first. That might take up too much space on an invite though!
