Inviting wording for 'almost married' guests.

Inviting wording for 'almost married' guests.

We have three couples we are inviting to the wedding who are getting married in September/early October.

When we send out the invitations, they will still have separate last names, but by the wedding date (Oct 30) they will be married.

Do I word the invitations with their separate last names or with their soon-to-be new last names?

Thanks ladies!

Since they arent married yet I would still use their different last names BUT I would put the same last name on the place card at your wedding.

same here also...but I am going to address them as their original names since when they get mailed out they won't be married yet..

I addressed them with both of their last names. Like this: Mr Jason Doe and Miss Kim Smith. Then i sent it to his house.

you have to use the girl's maiden name - they are not married yet.

That makes sense. I'll address the invites to their separate names and make the place cards with their new married names!

Thank you!! One more thing off the list!

We did it two ways. One couple that is getting married we put both their first and last names on the invite. But we had another couple that I didn't know his last name so we addressed it Ms. Michelle Jones and fiancee.

Usually, before we were engaged, if we got an invitation together it was addressed to whoever actually knew the bride or groom, and then the other persons first name...

Mr. Vincent I. and Jennie

We have also each gotten our own invitations... I thought that was a little weird but I guess it eliminates the problem.

As for placecards, we've either gotten our own, or both of our names have been on them. I don't know about using the 'married' name...

:) Good luck

Quite honestly, you should never just put a single name on an envelope. It is poor etiquette. If they are not married when you are sending out the invites, send it to Mr. Joe Smith and Ms. Jane Doe. I have received invitations addressed to my FI: Mr. Eric X and Joanna (no last name), from his family none the less, and it really bothers me. How hard is it to find out a last name!

Oh this is such a sore subject for fiance and I.

We sent a STD to a family friend. Three months later - she sent us an invitation addressed to 'Ms. Jane Doe and Guest'

Huh?
It would have taken her 2 seconds to get his name - it was on the STD card!!!! Or she could have asked her dad! So lazy and inconsiderate.

My fiance gets so annoyed when he is addressed as guest (when they know him and should know his name) Ms. Jane Doe and fiance would really set him off.

My pet peeve is the Mr. and Mrs. John Doe. If a man gets to be addressed with his first name - why wouldn't a woman get her first name on the invite? She didn't lose it when she got married.

Alas - you are sending it to peole who are not yet married so put their names as if unmarried. How do you know the bride is changing her name anyway?

When in doubt - go with the least offensive (aka most politically correct) way. Better to go against etiquette than offend someone.
