We're printing envelopes for 2 more people, so now is our last chance to add any other people to our list. We dont know if FH should invite his boss(es). I think he has 3. He's been working there for just about a year.
We don't know.. he's leaning toward no.... (they would all be OOT, flying distance)
Are you inviting your boss?

Re: inviting your boss?
What is his relationship with them? Sometimes, even if u know they wont come - the invite is appropriate, esp if there is a nice repor and relationship.
I love my boss- he was invited but cant come

Re: inviting your boss?
Neither of us did....but they would have had to travel to go, and it just doesn't make sense. FH has only been at his job since August so he really doesn't feel the need....and I'm leaving my job when we get married (and my boss has 2 kids (8 months & 3 years) and lives 3 states away from where the wedding is.....so no!

Yes, I'm inviting my boss but I don't think FH will.

Re: inviting your boss?
I invited several of my managers/bosses - even one of the owners - it's a small company and I have a really good relationship with most of management. Although it is starting to hit me that they will be witnessing such a huge milestone in my personal life - which is a little weird

Re: inviting your boss?
We are inviting 3 of the 5 principals in my building. My father also works in my school district (he is the athletic director) and he is close friends with all of them. One of them is even one of his former students from when he was still teaching.
I am not inviting my department chair though. I wouldn't want to.

Re: inviting your boss?
I work for a large company and my FH and I work together. The thing is no one at work nows we are getting married, or for that matter, dating or living together. They see us together all the time but we don't know if they figure we are a couple. One of our coworkers just said to FH that he would never get married. I told FH he has to hand deliver that invite. We figured we would shock them with the invitations. FH is very friendly with our immediate supervisor, although we don't get along very well, he is getting invited. We are also inviting our boss' boss, we are friendly with him. There will also be selective employees and higher up personal that will be invited. I have worked there for almost 9 years and FH has been there for over 6 years.

I am definately inviting both of my bosses, one of which has already expressed interest in coming, twice.

Re: inviting your boss?
I'm inviting three but I'm almost absolutely positive one won't come (religious reasons).
However your FH has only been there a year, so he would want to invite the one he works the most closely with on a day to day basis.

Re: inviting your boss?
I've been working at my place for about 5 years now. I started there as an intern and never left. So I'm pretty close with a lot of the people there, and they've been there through some pretty big events in my life - graduating law school, passing the bar, getting engaged, etc. So I'm definitely inviting the 4 partners and a lot of co-workers that I'm close with.
When my brother got married, he had been at his firm for one year, and he didn't invite his boss. I think he knew that he'd most likely be leaving after his wedding, so I guess it wasn't weird for him not to invite the boss knowing he probably wouldn't be working there much longer.
So if your FH has only been there 1 year and doesn't really want to stay with the place for long, I'd say he could probably get away with not inviting the boss. It def does depend on your relationship with the boss as to whether you should invite them. So I'd say really think about it a lot and then decide.

Re: inviting your boss?
hmmmm now im leaning toward thinking we should invite FH's bosses, even if there are a few of them.
2 more questions:
1) is it offensive to invite them since they are OOT and are unlikely to actually come? will they think they are just being invited for gifts?
2) if FH asks them for their addresses tomorrow and we get envelopes addressed for them there's really no turning back since they wil know it's for our wedding, right?
As long as we have enough invites (which I think we do) I dont mind inviting them even if they prob can't come. I think it's probably the right thing to do. I dont know how long FH will be at that job, either one more year (if we move back to NY after I finish school) or longer if we stay out here.

Re: inviting your boss?
I would say once he asks for their addresses, there most likely is no turning back. I would find it a little odd if I knew someone who was getting married asked me for my address and then didn't use it for anything.
As for whether they might think they're just getting invited to get a gift - I'm not really sure. I think it really depends on the person, and your relationship with the person. So I think you should talk to your FH, try to find out how his boss' personality is and whether he is the type to get offended about getting invited to a wedding that maybe it's known he can't attend.

I would agree...once you ask for the addresses it would seem odd to them if they didn't get invited. I also Agree about them thinking they are getting invited just for a gift...it really does depend on the relationship as well as the person. As to inviting bosses, I think in small businesses it is difficult not to invite especially since you tend to develop a close working relationship if not friendship. However, I think inviting a boss depends on the type of relationship you have. I am not inviting either my principal or three assistant principals. I'm not close with any of them and it would be uncomfortable for many of my friends who are also teachers at my school if they were there. However, I also don't think that any of them expect an invite. FH is NYPD and we are not inviting any of his bosses either. However we are inviting one of his previous sergeants who he became friendly with.

Re: inviting your boss?
We're inviting our current bosses... However, we're both starting new jobs this summer when we move to Charleston, but we're not inviting those bosses since right now we've only met them once, and it really wouldn't make sense.

Re: inviting your boss?
we invited my boss b/c i have a good relationship w her and i actually like her...but FH's boss...not so much...so he didn't get an invite.
i think you should do it the same way. i think you should invite if you like them enough, but don't feel obligated to. especially since he's been there less than a year and they're OOT.
my boss is also OOT (not flying distance, but long car ride...) but i am pretty sure she be happy to make the trip to come. i would ask FH how he thinks his bosses would feel about making the trip or if he thinks they would come at all.
